In amongst all the discussions, do not forget that today in 1485 he
was betrayed and killed, and had his throne usurped by the son of a
bastard line of Lancaster.
Remember those who died fighting for their king on Bosworth Field,
and mourn for the loss of potentially one of England's best monarchs.

Carol responds:
I haven't forgotten! I looked for news of Richard and Bosworth and
found only a number of "Today in History" statements commemorating the
death of Richard III as the end of the Wars of the Roses (clearly
they've never heard of the Battle of Stoke Field) and the beginning of
the Tudor dynasty. At least they didn't label August 22, 1485, as the
end of the Middle Ages! I expected to see some sort of In Memoriam
notice from the Richard III Society, but nothing--only the annual
reenactment of the Battle of Bosworth Field. But at least their
website carries the following message: "Please remember before God,
Richard III, King of England and those who fell at Bosworth Field,
this day, 22nd August, 1485, having kept faith. Loyaulté me Lie." The
rest of the RIII news related to a certain deathless play.
Carol, glad to know that the Society has not forgotten its purpose, to
seek and promote the truth about this much-maligned king

Indeed. I was a little late this year, but I replaced the www.r3.org homepage with the In Memoriam words penned by George Awdry, along with a photo of the Ambion Hill banner.
Maria Torres placed our annual In Memoriam in the New York Times. The notice, and a guest book, appear here:

The saddest of days comes round once again.
524 years ago today England lost King Richard the Third to treason,
and so began the tyranny of a bastard line of lesser Lancastrians.
Remember today those who died fighting for their rightful anointed king.

There is a memorial for Richard at Find A Grave:
http://tiny.cc/z92EO
At the moment Richard has 94 floral tributes to Henry Tudor's 78 - surely we can do a bit better than this. I would like to see hundreds of tributes for Richard, not a miserable 94.
It is a nice way of paying homage if you don't live in the UK and can't actually get to Bosworth,
Best wishes,
Jay
