Now that Annette has joined is it considered OK to discuss certain points made in the book or not as, as there are still some who have not yet read the book. Im dying to discuss this book on here but do see that possibly that could be annoying if you have not yet managed to read it..... ? I would really like to discuss Edward lV's death and Elizabeth Woodvilles actions regarding her two missing sons after Bosworth.

I would say why not, as Annette's book discusses all the issues
already discussed by us in the past.
Anyone who has not read Annette's marvellous book feel it would spoil
things for them if we do talk about issues raised by Annette? It
might spur them on to buying a copy!

Ann:
I have just checked, and Amazon.com says the paperback will be released
on July 1 from The History Press. The History Press page only gives
information about the hardcover edition.
http://www.thehistorypress.co.uk/Default.aspx?tabid=7748&CategoryID=205&
ProductID=2451&PageIndex=3&language=en-US
I'm on a book list or two, and we usually allow a month after the book
in question is available before starting a discussion online -- that
gives listees a chance to check it out from a library. IF the July 1
date is correct, a thorough discussion might reasonably begin on August
1.

I'm sorry but i got a big giggle out of the posts worried about spoiling the story for other members. I mean, i think we all know how it ends ;)
I have read great things about this book, looking forward to reading it myself. I wouldn't be bothered by seeing some discussion about it...but of course i am only one person.

Ah, but it's how they all get to those ends that makes the story, and the discussion, and the controversy, and the mystery....

Melanie, its the bits in the middle, that are discussed in the book, Im talking about. For instance there are at least 2, well shall I call them theories/points in Annette's book that I for one had not thought of before....perhaps others have, I dunno. If I should raise these 'theories' here before others have had chance to read the book, you may well giggle ;0) Melanie but I stand a good chance of being shot down in flames!!! I will add that it is because of Annette's 'fresh' approach to the subject that I very much enjoyed her book.
Someone has suggested (Anne?) that everyone who intends to read the book should have been able to do so by August lst. Seems rather a long time away. However if that is the general concensus so be it. Or maybe they that do object can say so now?? I must say personally, I would feel slightly narked if I had not yet been able to get the book....

I have just received my commemorative copy of Annette Carson's The
Maligned King, and am really thrilled with it. Hard back copy of course.
The binding is exceptionally well done, and there are new illustrations,
including the reconstruction of Richard's head.
As for the contents, this is what Annette tells me she has altered.
"The longest new section is pp.310-313 where the process of tracing
Richard's grave is described, and I also include a few words of calm to
dispel some rather overheated claims that are based on guesswork and
supposition. Obviously I've brought up to date all other places where he
is physically described, and you can identify these by looking in the
index under "Richard III, appearance/physique" Otherwise I think the
longest changed section is on the Crowland Chronicle in the Appendix. I
did undertake a major review of all the articles by people who talk
sense about Crowland, so there are several changes. The biggest change
is that I think it's right that the 'Richard section' was indeed written
up in about October 1485, not the 1486 date that was previously assumed."
The published price is 20UKP but Annette is offering a discount for
Ricardians, plus p&p of course.
It is worth every penny. If anyone else wants an autographed copy of
this limited edition simply email Annette at email@...
Paul
Just heard Chris Skidmore is writing a 3 part biography of Richard.
Obviously a selling technique inspired by Peter Jackson's stretching out
a short novel into a 6 hour The Hobbit series. I mean Skidmore has a
degree in Modern History, but that syllabus begins with the French
Revolution, and I thought MPs were complaining about their workload.
When will he get the time to do a proper job? Well, if what I've read of
his to date is anything to go by, he won't.
And Josephine Wilkinson's second part of the lives of the saints, sorry,
biography of Richard, is being rushed out too, even though I read the
author doesn't want to publish it!
More books on Richard that I will not be buying and probably not reading
either! I'm not averse to reading opinions of Richard I disagree with, I
just like well written books! Like Annette's.

Paul, Oh! - the book sounds wonderful! I would love to get my hands on a signed copy. Wondering if she ships to US? Will give it a try.
I don't belong to the RIII Society (either here or Britain) as yet. Would I be considered a Ricardian? My husband would say Yes, as he is always asking me how could I possibly read so many books on one single subject- Richard III !

Hi,
Yes, Annette has a North American shipping rate. I just received my personally signed copy today, shipped to Canada. I paid £30.50 by PayPal, which worked out to $50 Canadian. She mailed it Monday, and I got it today.
Regards,
Tracy

If anyone else wants an autographed copy of
this limited edition simply email Annette at mailto:email%40annettecarson.plus.com
