Hi everyone....Visited Fairford Church in Gloucestershire yesterday and although being rebuilt in 1490 is is not a Richardian site I thought some of you might be interested. It does have connections to Henry Vll and fat Henry visited there for mass. I explained to the guide that being a member of the Richard lll Society I do ummmmmm not like Tudor and his son but being as we were at that moment in a church I did not give full vent to my feelings :0)
I did drag my huband along with me and he was absolutely taken aback at these wonderful windows. They are glorious and although they were made after Richard's death I think they typify the church windows that he would have been familiar with in his lifetime.
There was also some wonderful misericords with some absolutely gorgeous and very humerous carvings....including one of a lady who has her husbands hair in one hand and is beating him with a paddle held in the other...I think out ancestors had wonderful sense of humour.....The people of Fairford must be very kind as Tiddles the church cat is buried in the churchyard with a lovely headstone in the likeness of himself.....
Tried to post some links here but been unsuccessful....google Fairford Church windows if you would like to see for yourselves...if you do please take a look at the misericords too..

Thank you, Eileen. I enjoy the old parish churches, which for the most part were untouched by Henry VIII. There are some real gems off the beaten track and you can totally lose yourself within them.
