Murder - again!

Murder - again!

Amazon just flagged me to ask if I would be interested in new book
'Richard III and The Murder in the Tower' by one Peter Hancock!
Well with a title like that my answer will be a definite NO WAY!
Makes me so d***ed angry that books are still being published with
provocative titles like this!
Of course I'm assuming the worst.
There are already two used copies on offer on Amazon and it was only
published June 1st.
Anyone know anything?
Paul

Hi Paul -- we're actually okay on this one: Peter Hancock is a Richard III Society member, living and teaching in Florida; he gave a fascinating presentation this last AGM in the US as a preface to this very book, which actually closely explores the reasons, objectives and such of all the major players for the death of Hastings, and, tantalizingly, the role of Catesby in it all. If the book is anything like his presentation, it is sympathetic to Richard; intelligent; intriguing; articulate; and well worth the reading.

Thanks Maria.
Good to know it isn't another book on "those bastards" which is what
I feared.
Of course, I don't believe Hastings was murdered either, executed for
treason, yes, but not murdered. So I have an issue with the title.

From my memory of the presentation, there's a *lot* to this book and this theory, which was only sketched out for us last year: and the title may be primarily for marketing purposes (and just think of all those Hicks/Weir readers being suckered into buying the book and learning something new!),

Of course, I don't believe Hastings was murdered either, executed for
treason, yes, but not murdered. So I have an issue with the title.

Ann:
Publishers have virtually absolute control over the title and
cover art. If you wrote a book on faith healing and gave it a tentative
title of TAKE UP THY BED, and a publisher decided it would have a wider
appeal if it was titled BLACK SATIN SHEETS and had a racy cover ...
that's how it would be shipped, even if you had to hide every trace of
it from your dear mother and grandmother.

So don't waste too much time blaming anyone ELSE for a book's
title or its cover.
