G'day all!

Planning on making a return visit to England next spring and would be interested in going to the Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre. However, it looks a bit out of the way for us who don't have access to a vehicle.

Can anyone tell me if there's an easy way to get there if you don't have a car? And, if so, what's the best way to get there?

pick up an international driver's licence, travel by train or bus/coach to a nearby community that has rental vehicles. rent a car and bob's yer uncle.

Hi Ken

There's quite a reasonable bus service from Leicester. A quick google produced:

Getting to Leicester is easy peasy by train. From London the station you need is St Pancras. There are also through trains from places like Birmingham and Sheffield and connections to more or less anywhere.

The bus takes you to Market Bosworth. From there it's a longish but pleasant hike along quiet roads. (If this is too much I expect a taxi will be available, and there's a couple of nice pubs in MB to wait for it)

I did this in 1985, in my pre-Society days, but determined to get to Bosworth Field on August 22. I don't drive, so took the train to Leicester, then got the bus to Bosworth Market, and became totally disoriented (not unusual). Found the tourist office, and a lovely, ancient little man showed a map of the place to me, then walked out with me to "put me in the picture". His instructions were something like this:

Man: It's a two mile walk. Do you think you can do it?
Me: Sure.
Man: Well then. You take this road here and you just follow it. You'll come to a fork in the road. Now you see that curve there?
Me: Yes.
Man: Not the big one, the little one.

Man: Well you ignore that and keep straight on. Then, what you'll have done is ignored it and kept straight on. Now, you keep following this road until you see this break. You see it?
Me: Yes.
Man: Well you go THROUGH that and you'll see a banner with Richard's boar on it. You know Richard's boar?
Me: Yes.
Man: Well, then you just keep walking until you find it, and you can't miss it: it's a whole field.

He was a lovely man, and gave me a favorite memory.

(Sorry for the pre-mature sending by the way),
