There is an interesting and well illustrated article on recent discoveries about the site of the battle of Bosworth on pages 26-31 of the latest (May/June 2010) issue (No 112) of 'British Archaeology', the magazine of the Council for British Archaeology.

Can anyone tell me where in relation to the old suggested battle site the new one is located?

I think it's supposed to straddle the Roman road near Fenn lane farm, putting it three kilometres south-west of Ambion Hill..

Very good. I guess that would also place it slightly southwest of the swamp and near a present day farm.

A farm is right in the middle of it. Heard an interview with the couple who own the farm. They were quite surprised to find they lived at Bosworth ground zero . . .

I have made a new album entitled 'Bosworth Rediscovered' and added some photographs of the new site which came out in February, 2010. Photograph number 6 shows the relative positions of the traditional site of the Battle of Bosworth and the new one,

Ken
So, is there any speculation as to why Richard abandoned the high ground to move that far southwest?

An excellent question indeed! One might speculate that he was warry of the Loyalties of the Stanleys and he sought to bring Tudor to battle as quickly as possible, having numbers and quality of troops on his side.

One must wonder too why the battle wasnt named after "Golding" if there was a medieval market there as the new location is far closer than Bosworth market.

Didn't the battle have several other names -- Ambion Hill, Redmore Plain -- before Bosworth was settled upon?

I believe it was originally named the "Field of Redemore". Check this page for historical references to the battle:

Thanks for this. I'm planning a trip to England in June and the Centre
is on my itinerary (from what I've heard, the battle site won't be
ready for a couple of years.) I was wondering where in regard to the
original site the new battle site is.
