There was an interesting Time Team Special on Channel 4 last night about
the 'relocation' of the Bosworth Battlefield, featuring Glenn Ford and
including a lot about cannon I hadn't been aware of, and some test
firing. Also a demonstration of how they were constructed.

It's now available to watch at
<http://www.channel4.com/programmes/time-team-specials/4od#3173822> but
I don't know whether it's viewable from abroad.

Some filming was done at the anniversary battle reconstruction (2010, I
assume). I didn't understand why they chose to interview Philippa Gregory.

Their ?reasoning became clearer when I saw that Sunday's 5.30 Timeteam
is about a dig at Groby, erstwhile home of Elizabeth Woodville. P
Gregory appears again. It, too, should be available on the Channel 4
website soon after.

To Christine and anyone with the geographical info:

I need ASAP a "diagram" of the new site in relation to the old.

A Website w/this info will do. I'm headed to work in a few minutes....

Thanks, Merci, Mille Grazie in advance,
Judy T. : )

There are some pictures in photos, under the album heading 'Bosworth Rediscovered' from February, 2010. I'm not sure whether there's a detailed map of the old Bosworth site or not,

Dear Dances et al.,

I've got maps of the old site. Need to compare against topology, etc. of new
site.

Where's Ambion Hill in re: new orientation? This affects a lot of us : )

A disappointing programme with one part totally about Towton.
However at the end we did get to see a map indicating where they have found shot from guns and canon, as well as artifacts, described as 'typical battle debris', and the site looks to be roughly 1.5 kilometres north west of Crown Hill, in flat open country.

You're a Rock Star, Sheffe. My little survey map is getting very "long in the
tooth" (worn out on the fold lines) and difficult to use.

For those of us who've relied upon the traditional information, this is all both
wonderful and daunting. I am grateful this showed up now, not a year from now.

One writer compared this Bosworth site to the discovery of "Troy" by Dr.
Schlie[possibly more letters?]mann, which was way before my time : ) and I'm
pretty old.

During my lifetime, I've seen the locating of mythical "Atlantis" (Santorini
and Crete) and a number of fabulous digs, including Alexander's Dad, I believe.
I still get goose-pimply!

Cheers to you, to Paul, et al., for your help so far. I was told this Forum was
a good "go to" place; too bad you can't download the round I'd order for
Everyone...

Bottoms up and Cheers!

On the other hand, TimeTeam enthuses people who have no idea about
history. They cover everything from the Iron Age to the Second World
War. Many people watching the programme would have been utterly clueless
about the Wars of the Roses - I have heard it described by someone I
would have expected to know better as a war between the people of
Lancashire and Yorkshire! The new understanding of the battlefield has
been covered in news programmes to a certain extent, but a deeper
exploration and a putting in context was very useful.

Part of the Towton section was about the evidence of how the corpses
died. Seeing the injuries - as much as we could 500 years later - and
how they could have been inflicted was a new experience for me.

And Tony Robinson kept his comments about the princes to himself. Which
was a pleasant surprise.

But how dare he call the result of Bosworth the "beginning of a golden age"! It also wasn't the end of the Middle Ages, which we all know was a gradual process not a door slamming shut, and Bosworth wasn't the last battle in the Wars of the Roses. Other than that, Mr Robinson was not so much in evidence as in some of his other programmes, which is a blessing for me at least:-)!

Hi, Sheffe--thanks, here's some warm soda bread...oops, no attachments allowed.

Sorry!

I've been trying to find it on Google Earth since they first announced this, but

still have not managed to pinpoint it--it would help if one knew where Fenn Lane

Farm is...

The last Atlantis show I watched had it in southern Spain--made a pretty good

case for it too.

Sheffe

P.S. Cheers! Having some Guinness for St, Patrck's day.

Judy

There is a diagram showing the relationship of the new site to the Bosworth

visitor center.

To Christine and anyone with the geographical info:

I need ASAP a "diagram" of the new site in relation to the old.

A Website w/this info will do. I'm headed to work in a few minutes....

Thanks, Merci, Mille Grazie in advance,

Judy T. : )

Subject: Time Team
