Richard's crown
Richard's crown

The notion that Richard had his crown on in battle at Bosworth Field
is also in Fabyan's account, at
http://www.r3.org/bosworth/chron4.html. This version of the crown
under the mulberry bush tale is that helmet with the crown still on
it was found under the bush or wherever it says it rolled, and
someone picked up the helmet with crown on it and put it on Henry
VII's head and said something like, Sire, I make you king.
No way a ceremonial crown of England was still on Richard's helmet
after it rolled under the mulberry bush.
This leaves me wondering if maybe the tale refers to something else
entirely. Is there any possibility Richard's crown had some sort of
crown insignia or a small crown attached to it?
Was that typical in that day?

I actually think Jones line that Richard held a crown wearing ceremony on
the morning of the battle, that is wore the ceremonial crown and paraded up
and down as a sign of his legitimacy. This would not be the only such
example in medieval history, as I believe both Henry IV and V did similar.

I'm sure it was standard practice. But I specifically wanted to know
about reports Richard wore his crown IN battle. Improbable though
it sounds, Hughes presents it as evidence Richard was seriously
insane. I had to check it out.
