Has anything really changed?
Banker's receiving bonuses for ruining the World's economy, corrupt, incompetent politicians hand in glove with them, a dodgy, biased media, and the misuse of military power usually for economic gain in the 21st century. Didn't the 15th century have the same problems? Do people: human nature, really change?

the only thing that i have noticed that has changed for the lower = working to middle management..is the punishments for "crimes" committed.
the upper escheleon has always had its priviledges..to a certain extent. read machavelli it is the beaurocrat's bible and how the lords spiritual and temporal keep the vulgar masses in control.
the new world order is
techno-lords..those who control via the political economy and corporations.
techno-disciples..those who are wannabes and who frequently do the dirty work for the lords..and are usually too stupid to realise..they are being used..and can and will be replaced once they are sucked dry. a few of these sycophants make it into the techno-lord stratasphere.
and then the rest of us fall into the techo-peasant class. with it's varying degrees..i.e. how wired into and proficient are you in our "new world order" electronic society.

Dear Roslyn and all,
We're currently recommending Inside Job, the film directed by Charles Ferguson about the Financial Disaster of '08 and thereafter. One of those things we peasants need to fully absorb and understand. Education and integrity need encouragement now more than ever, as even tiny decisions turn major when the world operates in nano seconds and in cyber space.

Indeed. But you forget the role of the media and how they dictate the way we think. Look at the current mess over Murdoch, who has been dictating to the British government for years now, keeping politicians in fear of his power.
Of course his papers are also largely responsible for the cult of celebrity that we are cursed with now. This morbid interest in other people's sex lives and their personal misery has replaced the joy people used to get from the games in Roman times, and public executions right up to the 19th century.
Then of course we must not forget the thrall the church held over people in the Middle Ages and how dominant that was. I was in Spain during the dying days of the Franco regime and it felt much like I imagine the Middle Ages must have felt, with political, personal, and intellectual repression, and a clear strata of those with and those who only serve, usually for little. In England after the Black Death decimated the population the people were able to rise up to a degree and get a marginally better life for themselves because their labour was needed. In Eastern Europe people power toppled the repressive regimes of the eastern bloc.
To a degree apathy allows the money to keep us in the place they want to keep us, and always will.
Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose as they say in France.
Salut et fraternité :-)

Apart from his misleading the UK into war in Iraq, with a reputed loss of over one million lives, by `juicing up' the intelligence, one of the most sickening sights is the smiley face of Tony Machiavelli Blair. Did you know that he, amongst other international politicians, deregulated the banks and when he left office as British prime minister, took two jobs, being paid over £I million per year by two banks: Zurich bank and J.P. Morgan. Blair flaunts his religiosity, but should be praying there's no spiritual retribution for his two-faced evil.
Interpretations of events of the past are difficult to say the least. I do have some sympathy for Richard III, because if he'd allowed Edward V to reign with his greedy and vicious Woodville relatives in power, Richard probably, like Clarence, would've suffered, but in opposing `a sea of troubles,' he also was killed. A catch-22 situation, where he couldn't win, but do people ever ultimately `win' in life? Henry VII had his Bosworth victory in 1485, but also had his 1509 stroke which killed him!
Quel che sarà sarà: what will be, will be, what is, is and what was, was. Human nature can't change, until it dies off.

I was in Spain during the dying days of the Franco regime and it felt much like I imagine the Middle Ages must have felt, with political, personal, and intellectual repression, and a clear strata of those with and those who only serve, usually for little. In England after the Black Death decimated the population the people were able to rise up to a degree and get a marginally better life for themselves because their labour was needed. j'ai une chose très importante à te dire :
`Joy' was relative : I suspect many people suffered execution who didn't deserve it : can anyone blame the teenage Katherine Howard for seeking a more suitable partner over the temperamental, grossly overweight and apparently smelly 50 plus Henry VIII and wasn't Anne Boleyn set up to suit the political whims of those around her?
Wasn't Richard III a victim of circumstance as was the 12 year old Edward V? Fate doesn't care. Fate is a bit like the difference between the ancient view that the Sun was a conscious God, which most modern people would see as an extremely dangerous uncaring entity.
