J. T,
If you are really interested in the Authorship Question, which has been around for 400 years, read a book called "Shakespeare's Unorthodox Biography" by Diana Price. It gives an excellent overview of the whole issue. She does not come out for any one candidate - as do so many other people who do not believe in Shaksper's authorship. She sticks with the FACTS. I think you will find it really worth your time. The book was published by Greenwood Press in 2001.

I don't know if the 17th Earl of Oxford wrote Shakespeare's plays or not, but might that not explain why Richard was portrayed so darkly?  After all this earl's great great (?) grandfather was a traitor to the crowned king Richard III.

Dear Janet, thanks for the recommendation. I looked up the Diana Price book
but it's not available at my library and costs a fortune on Amazon. It's
years since I researched this question, (extremely thoroughly at the time)
and came out firmly on the side of Shakespeare most definitely being the
author, but frankly I've forgotten most of the arguments now. Certainly an
incognito de Vere would be an ironic solution to the question, but I find
the many assumptions extremely hard to believe.

As for Kindle, there's a new model (Kindle Fire) due out in the USA only
next month which looks brilliant - but not yet available elsewhere. Surely
the UK will bring out their own adaptation soon.

Many thanks to everyone - and now back on subject ----------

Barbara
