Fayre,
The Yahoo forum graphic shows an individuals coat of arms and it looks pretty good to me.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group//
Just wondering where it might have come from and must be historical.

Hello Gary - A few words of explanation. The coat of arms you've seen as this forum's logo is actually the official coat of arms of the Richard III Society, which is the host of this forum. The Society was formed in the UK over half a century ago and its arms were created for the Society and registered with the College of Arms. (The College of Arms doesn't have the title 'Royal' and I've always wondered why.) Richard III founded the College of Arms with Letters Patent dated 2 March 1484. As you probably know, devices borne by mediaeval knights and nobility in battle served the purpose of identifying the bearers, and heralds kept track of who had which insignia. Richard founded the College of Arms to keep a national register to avoid confusion, and to ensure that arms were borne only by those entitled to do so. Heraldry is an amazing topic and I wish I knew more ...
If you are not a member of the Richard III Society you might like to know there are branches all over the world, including the USA, Canada and Australia, and new members are welcomed. You don't need to know much about Richard III, nobody tests your knowledge or asks for credentials. You'll have seen a posting recently by Joan Szechtman speaking of the 'Bulletin' and the 'Register'. These are quarterly publications by the Society, and Joan is editor of the latter ('Ricardian Register'). Much of the content is submitted by members. These publications, and the annual scholarly journal "The Ricardian", are included in members' subscriptions. They are invaluable for keeping up with the latest news, opinion and research on Richard and his times.
Joan, regarding your request for articles, you do have my 'Edward V', don't you? Speaking of the College of Arms, if you would like illustrations for a forthcoming 'Register', I could send you four or five photos I took when I was there. I don't have time to research and write a piece myself about the College and heraldry just now, but if I send you the images, maybe someone else would like to write a few words to go with them? The text needn't be very long or erudite, just something to accompany the pictures. Would that be an idea?
Regards, Annette

Annette,
Thanks for the reply and informative.
Great information and I'm planning on making this a repost in a heraldry forum with the URL. Very nice work.
As far as titles nobody wants to think things get misplaced.
