BBC 4 TV Documentary of the Week: CHORISTERS OF SALISBURY CATHEDRAL
BBC 4 TV Documentary of the Week: CHORISTERS OF SALISBURY CATHEDRAL

For those who appreciate choral music:
BBC 4 TV Documentary of the Week:
ANGELIC VOICE: THE CHORISTERS OF SALISBURY CATHEDRAL
TV BBC 4 SUNDAY at 9pm and repeated Good Friday at 7.30pm.
"The Choristers of Salisbury Cathedral. The lives of 32 young boy and girls choristers. The programme explores 900 year old traditions as well as Choral Music in Britain through the centuries. Auditions, Rehearsals and preparing for Holy Week final performances. 1.5 hour programme."
For those who can cast their mind back far enough, one of the little tads whom you can imagine singing "My soul doth magnify the Lord..." was, in the dim past (1952-57), me.
What they won't show you is some of these choristers struggling to get home from boarding school via non-existant public transport on the evening and night of Christmas Day.

Hi, Robert! Thanks!
Did you wear one of those cute ruff collars?
Even in the US, we tune in when we can. I close my eyes and picture the medieval singers. "Our" Richard loved music.
My scholarly pal P. and I, years ago, drove from Chicago to Kalamazoo, Michigan and the Medieval Conference to catch Paul Hillier et al. We brazenly asked for Special Requests from their Early English repertoire, then invited them out for ice cream, after...and there not being a lot of "night life" in that town, we had what passes for fun on a Sat. night in Kalama-zoo-zoo-zoo. I especially recall the "snicker-doodles." (Most of the other conference attendees were either too shy or too humourless to stick around.)
