What a shame we do not know for sure why La Woodville spent the last 5 years of her life in Bermondsey Abbey. Its important. If we knew for sure she was sent there, in 1487, because she was involved in the Lambert Simnel rebellion, 1487, it could not send a clearer signal that she knew her sons were still alive.
Virgil says she was sent there as a punishment for making her peace with Richard in 1484 but why would Henry wait 2/3 years to do that.
Some high ranking ladies did retire to these religious houses of their own choice...
Did Elizabeth?
It is known that Katherine of Valois ended up her days at Bermondsey under a cloud and cast out of royal favour.
Did Elizabeth...
Couldnt she, as the Queen's mother, been given somewhere more salubrious, a nice little manor house somewhere. Or even an apartment/rooms in one of the palaces. They had enough...I wonder where Margaret Beaufort lived.....
Any thoughts anyone?
