Margaret of York, Richard III's sister
Margaret of York, Richard III's sister

Sorry to interrupt the Catesby festivities, but I've come across a
historical anomaly and I'm hoping that someone can help out.
It is said that after Richard III's death at Bosworth that his sister
Margaret of Burgundy (widow of Charles the Bold) created the Court of
the White Rose and sponsored at least two pretenders contra Henry
Tudor.
But where did she reside? After Charles the Bold's death at Nancy in
1477 'Spider' Louis XI siezed Burgundy and the Hapsburgs came into
possession of the Netherlands portion of the dukedom. Where did our
poor Margaret go to stir up trouble against Henry VII? Was she in
Flanders? Where was this court, anyway? I thought it would have
been in Dijon, but that was too late.
Thanks so much! Any hint is appreciated!

See Christine Weightmann, Margaret of York. Margaret was beloved of her
step-daughter Mary of Burgundy and her son in law, the Emperor Maxmillian.

Hi Nate/Laura
<Sorry to interrupt the Catesby festivities,>
Not at all...I'm glad of the opportunity to stop
wondering about old Wm's non-knighthood <g>.
Laura's right - Ms Weightman's book on the
"Diabolical Duchess" is definitely the place to look.
I'm away from it at the moment, but I've
a vague notion she set up Court at either
Malines or Mechelen (sp?) but I'll double-check
and get back ASAP as I'm not sure of
either the places or the timeframe
(ie. whether it was pre-or post-Bosworth)
on that.
Regards - Lorraine
