"Disability Is Not a Deformity" Press Release

Jacqui from the main UK branch forwarded a press release to the American branch's Yahoo group, which is for members only, about the media's tendency to confuse scoliosis with kyphosis and to regard a disability as proof of villainy, but she seems not to have posted it here. Here's a link to that message for those of you who belong to that group:
http://xa.yimg.com/kq/groups/20861994/1501603048/name/RIIIS+Media+Information+-+DISABILITY+IS+NOT+A+DEFORMITY+301012.pdf
If the link doesn't work, go to their website if you're a member. It's a recent post and you'll find it easily.

Perhaps someone who knows Jacqui could ask her to post it here for the benefit of those who aren't members of the Society or of that group. Or, if it's all right with the group moderators, I can add it to our group files so that everyone here can read it.

Thanks,
Carol

If you do, remind everyone that Princess Eugenie (whose father is Duke of York) and Usain Bolt are also scoliosis sufferers.

Thanks for posting this, Carol. As a member of the UK Parent Society, I am
very interested to see the Society speaking out in no uncertain terms to set
the record straight.

I think the Society should have a system for automatic distribution at least
to all the UK members, if not members of branches all around the globe.

Hello Carol

Jacqui here!

Thank you for putting a link up to the press release.

I posted the Society's 'position statement' on the re-burial to the
List earlier this week - Monday I think it was.

I'll post on here any further press releases of which several are
planned over the next few weeks.

In my capacity as the Branch/Groups Liaison Officer for the Society I
post information out like the Disability press release & other
interesting links etc to the Secretaries of the B/Gs both in the UK &
Overseas for them to inform their members.

Richard's reputation is the Society's prime focus at the moment - so
that when he is reburied it is as 'Good King Richard' not as
Shakespeare's hunchback monster!! So, the more information there is 'out
there' the better.

cheers

Jac

Hi, Jacqui. Thanks for your response. Are you planning to add the press release to our Files? Or I can do it if you prefer. Not everyone here can access the link I posted since not all are members of the Society and the other group is for members only.

*** There is - its me:)) See my post to Carol. All press releases &
relevant info goes out to the Secretaries of the UK & Overseas Branches
& Groups for distribution to their members. however, that does leave a
lot of Society members who don't belong to a B/G for whatever reason so
I'm happy to post on here for everyone. Spread the word folks:))

If you can't access the press release posting in the files is a good
idea if Neil agrees or I can post it as text in an email.

Thank you

Johanne Tournier
Thanks, Jacqui. I think it's a wonderful statement.

If you have any specific suggestions on how we might get the word out, I
would really appreciate it. Of course, it's understandable that essentially
all that's going on in the US right now is either the disaster or the
election campaign. But I don't believe there has been much coverage up here
in Canada, either, since the initial report of the discovery. Of course, I
may have missed it.

Thanks again! It's a great thought that this may end up not only helping to
create a truer, finer image of Good King Richard but also educating people
about the effects of scoliosis.

Carol responds:

You're welcome, Jacqui (Jac). My next message should be an announcement that the .pdf of the article has been added to our files.
