Yahoo won't let me respond to either Johanne's or Maria's messages on this topic, so I'm starting a new thread.

Amazon indicates that "Daughter of Time" is not available on Kindle, but there's a link where you can request a Kindle version:

Pamela, I can tell you for sure that *DoT* is not available for my kindle, which goes through the US kindle store. I would have bought it before this if it were.

Anyway, I'll keep Carol's message as well as George's and Maria's for later reference. One way or the other, by hook or by crook, I will get it onto my kindle! <grin>

Sheffe, are you in the UK? There's no such link for us in the U.S. or, apparently, Canada. I tried all editions of the book on
Google Books and all of them say "no ebook available"--which leaves us with the option of requesting on the Amazon Kindle site that the book be made available on Kindle.

I know that if you have a kindle you are inclined to use the software
provided ( on Amazon) however I would strongly suggest that you consider
taking a look at Calibre

http://calibre-ebook.com/download

It's free and very good across all operating systems also it will cope with
most forms of electronic books, I have been using it for about 2 years
without any problems to date I have approx. 2 Gig in e-books

Hi, Liz -

Just so's you know I'm not really a cheapskate where Richard is concerned: I
bought two copies - one hardback and one paperback - after the announcement
of Sept. 12, 2012, because I had lost my previous copy in the course of my
moving to my new home. So, I've got two copies, but I like it so much, I
want to have a digital copy that has a search function. I'm tired of leafing
through the pages to find stuff, and of course there's no index in it, being
as it's "just a novel." <smile>

Josephine Tey is still in copyright in Europe, where it now lasts 70
years from the author's death.

I try very hard not to download works from Project Gutenberg where the
author has been dead for less than 70 years. American copyright law used
to be different from European, but it is now the same except that works
which were earlier out of copyright still are, whereas in the UK they
returned to copyright.

There are reasons not to approve of copyright lasting 70 years from the
author's death, but it would seem a great shame to deprive the estate of
the woman who started so many of us on the path of Ricardian Righteousness.

Best wishes
Christine

Her royalties apparently go to the National Trust. Maybe donations in
lieu would be appropriate <g>.

Thanks, Dorothea. Actually, three of us (I think) have posted this link. Unfortunately, at least for those of us in the U.S. (and Canada?), there's no Kindle icon for downloading the book from the Adelaide site (or Google books or Amazon), only the online version.

I own the paperback; I was posting info for someone else (Johanne?). But since the paperback is inexpensive and readily available, that might be the way to go for those outside the U.K.

Or at least the library, which is the part that closed if I understand correctly. But I think she could just plead statute of limitations, assuming that there's a new library that still checks out paperbacks.

Ha!  there is usually a maximum limit to library fines and even after 35 years I doubt if it would pay for the work that needs doing to the building

Thank you George.  I don't have any reader at all--I read everything in htm or PDF.  That said, I downloaded a program from Amazon in order to be able to read Mobi files, but have not actually tried it yet.  I specifically looked for the kindle download because of someone (Carol?) saying they could not find it.

At this point I have a zipped version of Daughter of Time downloaded from the same website, although I did copy and save each chapter separately.

Most of my free books have been downloads from Project Gutenberg, which I love!
