regarding if Richard was an alpha male&how interesting a comment ! I live in central Texas where its still pretty wild and woolly, and I said long ago, that the men around whom I live and work, are mostly alpha males. In my field of being a wildlife artist, Ive come very far with the assistance of alpha males, very distinguishable by their dare devil, adventurous, risk taking, brave... personalities. They are very dominant and "in your face", but entirely lovable too. I await the interesting comments about Richard and his friends. Carol D

Speaking from my entirely feminine and prejudiced view <smile>, I don't
believe Richard was an alpha male, per se. I think you can be a daring
dare-devil, risk-taker, which he was, without being an alpha male (I think
of my late husband). Let's see - of the three brothers, Edward, George and
Richard, I suspect that Edward and George were the two alphas, which is why
they clashed so. Richard was not only bound by loyalty to Edward, but when
they did clash, it seems he just retreated to a place where he had relative
autonomy, into the North. That is not the action of an alpha male. The alpha
male fights the challengers for dominance in the pack. Richard instead
respected the rule of law and did his best to govern within a system of laws
that were binding on king and subjects alike. The opposite of a fight for
dominance; he felt, once his nephews were declared illegitimate, that he was
the rightful ruler, anointed by God. He would fight if he had to, but I
don't think it was his preference.
