The Spitalfields Life blog for today has an entry called "The Dinners of Old London." It includes a photo of "The King's Robing Room, Palace of Westminster."

I thought it's perhaps a room Richard knew, and that there might be others in the collection as well.

No...sadly...the Palace of Westminster was burnt down in the early part of the 19th century. Only Westminster Hall and the crypt of St Stephens Chapel survived. Truly a massive loss...Eileen

Well, that's just maddening and disappointing, isn't it?

I had also been thinking if there were any rooms with authentic interior from Richard III´s days...
Really tragic.

Yes..tragic...but if you google The Painted Chamber you will see images of this wonderful room which would have been very familiar to Richard. It would have been his sitting room and also would have had a state bed at one end on a dais which was separated by curtains.

I have posted a link but it might not work...as Im doing it all wrong...again....!:0)

Is the decor from the 15th century too or more recent (17th)? It seems more ornate than than what I perceive to be the middle ages sensibility.....

Of course Richard would have been very, very familiar with Westminster Hall, part of the old palace, which is still standing. Coronations, feasts, the Court of the King's Bench....He and Anne would have been in the Hall many times.

I forgot to say, just across the road from the Houses of Parliament, which was built on the site of the old palace, there is another little survivor...The Jewel Tower....You used to be able to visit... I dont know if that is still the case...Eileen

Thank you, Eileen. It worked! What a fascinating insight. I didn´t dare hope that there were any graphics left. :-)

Somehow it makes the person more "alive".

There's an entire book on the Painted Chamber which I read once. Lots of figures painted on the walls, as well.

And the reason for the fire is pretty astonishing - one night in October
1834, someone decided to use old 'tally sticks' - wooden tax records
used for more than 700 years - in the Lords Chamber heating system. It
got out of control. Westminster Hall remains thanks to Lord Melbourne,
the Prime Minister, who made sure it was where the water was concentrated.

Best wishes
Christine

An IRA bomb damaged Westminster Hall in the 1970.....I remember feeling so upset at the time. There is a wonderful statue of Oliver Cromwell outside too.....I love it...it is a wonderful, wonderful place. I visited it a long time ago... It is quite empty in there....so you can just stand there with the massive hammerbeam roof just soaring over your head. I dont know if it is any different now but when I visited there were not many other visitors...Eileen
