Book Recommendations - thank you
Book Recommendations - thank you

Thank you to everyone who has recommended books on Richard. Now I know what to avoid and what to chase down. You've provided a wonderful list of material for the next few months.
I've had a request in for The Sunne in Splendour for a month at the local library. When I started, the wait was 45 days, so it seems it's still very popular. Other novels were out for him as well, but they had no such waits.

Re: The Sunne in Splendour.
It´s an amazing book with very lively characters. Even as a fictive work it is invaluable because it is well researched, places genuine and fitting the timelines and historic facts are authentic (even every day details). I couldn´t help but feel astonished that it is such a "new" book because it catches the atmosphere of the 15th century very well. I often found myself thinking about those sceneries and relationships and spending a great deal of thought on it, trying to link it with my own ideas or simply looking at the people and feeling with them. If it wasn´t written in modern english...
Besides I found also amazing likenesses to people I know, not always the most sympathetic characters... lol
This was the first book which absorbed and excited me but which I felt reluctant to finish.
I knew the historic outcome but I couldn´t helpt thinking "Oh, if they just did this or that...they could still get out of it."

Yep. No point in piss-arsing about waiting for libraries when they can be bought for a buck and P&P.

Too true blancy...I got hold of a brand new copy of Blood and Roses by Helen Castor for about 50p because there was a little crease on the cover. I got the Road to Bosworth for about £3... I await the day when I can get a copy of Richard lll Coronation for an affordable sum and I will be one happy woman...
A book as good as Sunne in Splendour you are bound to want to read more than once...I would definitely go for a 2nd hand copy rather than library...Eileen

A copy of what? Abebooks has TSiS for 63p + £4 P&P from UK to USA. Which suggests a US-based seller could slim that down for a start.
