Ellen Luenor was possibly a benefactor and founder with her husband Gilbert. Normally a woman would not have been buried there.
Her bones have been disturbed and reburied at a higher level than the church floor, possibly in the 17th century by a gardner in Mr Herricks garden and at the east end which would have been a high status area. Ellen would have been buried about 1250. I got this info from a link on the BBC History site....Eileen

Ellen Luenor was the founder/ benefactor of the Greyfriars and as such would have a high placed burial within the church. I don't know if they have 100% confirmed the skeletal remains as hers, but few people other than monks or benefactors'/ nobility were buried in the chancel and most certainly not a female unless she was a Saint or benefactor

The other burials I believe would have been within the grounds of Greyfriars in a sanctified area, typically facing East West, I do not believe that the monastery burial plot has been found and probably never will be.

Hi, Ishita

That article doesn't talk about the identification of the woman's bones. They are discussed here

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-20143463

Ellen Luenor was apparently one of the founders of the Priory, along with her husband Gilbert. They think the reason the bones were disarticulated was because they were dug up accidentally in the 17th. century and then re-buried at a higher level than that of the church floor. And it doesn't sound like they've done DNA on her; rather they identified seven burials that it might be of known individuals buried at the Priory, and she was the only woman among them.

Hi, Ishita

I take it that she was not buried in the eastern part of the church, where Richard was buried. So they were not actually buried together. It's just that her bones and Richard's weren't dug up and reburied elsewhere when the Priory was disestablished in the 16th. century.

Who was Ellen Luenor? And how come her bones ended up there? I have not read the article yet.

They think the reason the bones were disarticulated was because they were dug up accidentally in the 17th. century and then re-buried at a higher level than that of the church floor. And it doesn’t sound like they’ve done DNA on her; rather they identified seven burials that it might be of known individuals buried at the Priory, and she was the only woman among them.
