Buckingham & Gloucester

I began watching a documentary tonight, and the first lines Peter Coyote
spoke were as follows, which immediately made me wonder if this is what
Richard may have run into with Buckingham:
*Imagine that the most handsome, charismatic person stares you straight in
the eye and says, ýYouýre special. You look good. And youýre good at what
you do.ý *
* *
*He seems to know just what you like. He reads your innermost thoughts, and
you feel like youýve discovered a soul mate, a deep intimacy. Youýre
experiencing one of those rare, fleeting moments that makes life worth
living. *
* *
*Before you know it, youýre involved in a deep, personal bond with a
psychopath. *

Hi, You could well have hit the nail on the head. I worked with one - they flatter you immensely, they build you up and then a little later they turn on you and it takes you some time to absorb it; hence another reason for R's outburst in his letter Cheers Hilary

Ah, Buckingham. I know a forensic pathologist, friend of a friend, who works with the Chicago PD. Just as a lark, I showed him some old handwriting, including Buck's.
"I wouldn't buy a used horse from this guy," he said.

Speaking of which, anyone read the graphologist's report on Richard's handwriting on the RIII Society website? It's interesting, but I do wonder how much is being projected on to the analysis based on suppositions about the historical record...

Very curious about this. The RIII Society analysis could be construed as quite negative in some ways. I'm paraphrasing, but it said something like "an undoubtedly impressive man, but one to steer clear of if you valued your safety". It also mentioned him losing touch with reality when freed from the constraints of a subject.
I can understand how the graphologist might discern depression as his lettering shrank. But surely analysis is best undertaken when the subject is anonymous? A bit difficult when the major source is those great, swooping "Richard Gloucestre" signatures. That's why I wonder how much of the reading has been influenced by assumed knowledge of the period.
Also, of course, a 15th Century psychological norm probably doesn't correspond with a 21st Century one, especially with regard to the universality of violence, which must add to the difficulty of interpretation...

Exactly. I wish I had got a written statement from that CPD graphologist. He didn't know Richard from Paddy's Pig, and he did not find any of that dangerous-sounding stuff. What he did notice was idealism, optimism, and action, which then crumbled in on itself with the last signatures. Greatly increased anxiety. Withdrawal and depression. This man readily admitted that because the writing method was so different from most modern cursive handwriting, certain features had to be treated as Neutral (i.e., he couldn't apply quite the same interpretations - some things now considered unusual were then the Norm, and vice-versa).

Speaking of which, anyone read the graphologist's report on Richard's handwriting on the RIII Society website? It's interesting, but I do wonder how much is being projected on to the analysis based on suppositions about the historical record...

Ah, Buckingham. I know a forensic pathologist, friend of a friend, who works with the Chicago PD. Just as a lark, I showed him some old handwriting, including Buck's.
"I wouldn't buy a used horse from this guy," he said.

I began watching a documentary tonight, and the first lines Peter Coyote
spoke were as follows, which immediately made me wonder if this is what
Richard may have run into with Buckingham:
*Imagine that the most handsome, charismatic person stares you straight in
the eye and says, You're special. You look good. And you're good at what
you do. *
* *
*He seems to know just what you like. He reads your innermost thoughts, and
you feel like you've discovered a soul mate, a deep intimacy. You're
experiencing one of those rare, fleeting moments that makes life worth
living. *
* *
*Before you know it, you're involved in a deep, personal bond with a
psychopath. *
