Hi, Maire!
Yes Barbados really is wonderful. I'm staying at the Almond Casuarina Beach Resort in St Lawrence Gap. Arthur and I stayed here in 1989, the last time we were here. It was nice then - it's about twice as big and even nicer now. And it's all-inclusive, the first all-inclusive hotel I've ever stayed in. And the food and drinks are great! I discovered a drink rum, pineapple juice, banana liqueur and a splash of Grenadine - it's called a Bahama Mama, and I call it yummy!
Yes that is a romantic thought that the friars would have left a memento with the body. Perhaps! All will soon be revealed! I hope!
Speaking of friars I am currently reading *A Trail of Blood* by Jeremy Potter, author of *Good King Richard?*. The protagonist is a monk at Croyland, the archivist during the reign of Fat Hal, who is tasked by his abbot with conducting an investigation. It reminded me in the beginning of *The Name of the Rose* except that rather than being immured at Croyland, Brother Thomas has been traveling hither, thither and yon, including the Tower, Bermondsey, Stoke and Lincoln. Very interesting and a gripping yarn.
Loyaulte me lie,

Hi, Johanne! My thought when I read the comment section of the Daily Mail was that the monks of Greyfriars may have buried him with a symbol of his reign - not totally unlike the final scene in "We Speak No Treason." But then I'm a romantic by nature and would love that that were true. Hope you're enjoying Barbados! Maire.

Of course as I read the info in the DM and Telegraph and this press release, it is still possible that some significant personal article was found with him. Personally, tho I would love to see such a precious artifact, I doubt that the rumour is true, as we have always heard that the body was despoiled and that it was brought into Leicester completely nude. Therefore it's highly unlikely that any item of intrinsic worth would have been left with the body - unless the brothers might have left it with the body for the specific purpose of aiding in identification in time to come. That would be a wonderful thought.

It must be wonderful to be in the sun with a Bahama Mama. We just lost power for about 4 hours - in the cold. We're still suffering from the effects of Hurricane Sandy. Thanks for recommending A Trail of Blood - I've been meaning to order it. I just found an inexpensive copy of Annette Carson's book. Phew! That was hard to track down. Can't wait to get it.

Now to order my Richard the III coffee mug! Who'da thunk it in our lifetime? Maire.

Of course the Christian thing to do would be to holiday in Soweto and donate the difference to the poor.

Unless you're a Marxist of course; I believe that Lenin considered there to be no harm in luxury so long as the working class was the beneficiary.

Hi -
I wish I had an amusing response ... I guess the quickest and easiest is to simply say I have never held myself out as a good Christian. The second thing is to note that Jesus "came eating and drinking" (in contrast to John the Baptist) and they said he was "a glutton and a drunkard" (Jesus' words). Thirdly you know virtually nothing about me, and I would say it's easy to be a hypocrite when one is hiding behind a shield of anonymity. And lastly there are many poor in places besides Soweto. Going there IMHO would smack of liberal condescension and making a public show - "Look how good I am, I'm going to Soweto!" Hypocrisy again.

I don't say much in any groups, but this is a pervasive problem in
too many of them. Please drop the liberal bashing at once. It is not at
home on a list such as this. Thank you.

I think Johanne's original response was to me after I jokingly expressed jealousy that she was in Barbados. That, for some reason, made another poster respond by talking about Marxism and Soweto. A tad bit "off topic," I think. Maire.

Hi, Maire -
Yes and thanks! As a liberal myself, I was not intending to be liberal-bashing. Just hypocrite-bashing. LOL!
I would rather discuss Richard! Bear with me, maybe I can think of a new thread!

Johanne Tournier
Hi, Eileen & Everyone!
OK, beautiful Barbados is just some ephemeral bliss in compensation for not being in Leicester when you get together for your cuppa and custard tarts in honor of our King - unless you happen to wait till next Aug and I can get there then - or for the tour in Sept. Or both!
In the meantime, by late Wednesday I'll be sharing the miseries again of the Great White North. (But it will be worth it - I will be back with my little poochies once again.)
TTFN (smile)
Loyaulte me lie,
Johanne

Yes and thanks! As a liberal myself, I was not intending to be liberal-bashing. Just hypocrite-bashing. LOL!
I would rather discuss Richard! Bear with me, maybe I can think of a new thread!
