I've read (somewhere) that Edward IV had an illegitimate daughter named Elizabeth who lived in his household.
Is this true, or is it one of those persistent stories arising from misreadings or misunderstanding of documents?

Do we know who her mother was?
Do we know of any other bastards of Edward IV?

If only the Royal Marriages Act (1772) had come in over three centuries earlier. Although George IV and Mrs. Fitzherbert went through a ceremony, it was illegal without the monarch's consent and the same would apply to the George III and Hannah Lightfoot rumours.
Both of Edward IV's clandestine "marriages" would have been illegal. He would have been free to marry in public but NOT to either of his older Lancastrian widows. Mrs. Fitzherbert was also an older (double) widow, although neither of her husbands had been at war with George. Her niece and adopted daughter (Mary Ann Smythe) married into the Stafford-Jerningham family, bearers of the Stafford Barony.
