Hi
There is a programme on the Yesterday channel at 10.00 pm tonight called Instruments of Death if anyone is interested. It is about the Wars of the Roses and specifically The Battle of Towton. According to the blurb it is about the weaponry used.

I can't get Yesterday anymore even though it's Freeview. I have the "wrong sort of aerial" (because of the signal) which means I don't get all Freeview channels.  Am hoping to get the right sort of aerial soon!

Thank you for posting this. As a result I have just switched over to watch the programme. I bought the book Fatal Colours by George Goodwin this week, which is about Towton, so I'm indeed interested.

This is my first post as I only recently joined the forum. So I hope I've posted correctly.

Yesterday channel is going downhill. Already swamped by old episodes of Last of the Summer Wine, they've now started showing repeats of Bergerac. Quite what that has to do with history I cannot guess.

They've also shown the Time Team Bosworth episode a lot recently recently:

Yes the aerial problem since we all went digital is a bugger! I had one that couldn't pick up certain channels, then after the switch over I get everything easily, even some French ones (I live on the south coast).

I posted about this programme when it was first shown last November, commenting on the name of the presenter a double barrelled German/Spanish mix, Karl Ude-Martinez, though he speaks English with an English accent!
Name apart though he did an excellent job, and the programme was fascinating. He did a similarly good job on Hastings.
No sign of one on Bosworth though, or any of the WOTR battles apart from Towton.

Enjoyed the programme...They demonstrated with a large dead pig...poor pig...how they would remove arrowheads. How the wounded person coped with the pain is anyone's guess. First they would insert two flat probes either side of the wound opening, dig around until they got hold of said arrowhead and pulled it out. The then cauterised the wound by means of heating up a probe thingy, inserting it in the hole and kind of stirring it around...you could hear the sizzling and of course the smell must have been awful. How anyone survived I know not....

The actual battle site and how the battle went was explained to make it understandable. The rout was absolutely horrendous....very steep running down and trying to get to the beck which was in spate....many were drowned. So many bodies they formed bridges...

If the wind had not blown in the direction of the Lancastrian forces which were larger, snow and sleet the battle may have gone the other way...Eileen
