Am watching Channel 4 (Time Team for my sins) and they just showed a trailer for the documentary which is indeed called "the King in the Car Park".  Can you believe this - it's sponsored by Honda!

OK, bad Colonial joke, but in the USA it could be called "Trailer Trash"! But truly, that is very poor taste, no matter what company is paying for the adverts! Apologies way in advance!

Grand idea.....it is in the 70's here in the Texas Hill Country, and we have a nice television. Alas, we probably do not pick up Channel 4. Is that a BBC Station? Sorry, I seem to be the pig at the Garden Party, asking dumb questions, and making idiotic remarks!!!!

The seventies! It's only 63 here in Tucson (17.2 degrees Celsius for our British friends). I'm afraid that those of us in the States won't be able to see it even with an i-player as it will probably be blocked outside the UK. We'll have to hope for a DVD in U.S. format (I forget what it's called).

Eileen, you still have an aerial (or antenna, as we used to call them)? I haven't seen one here for twenty years or more. We all have either cable or satellite dish. (Well, a few people apparently have them and get free TV using a converter box, but I don't know anyone in that category.) Of course, my newish TV died and I'm using an old one from the antenna era, so I'm not bragging or anything, just commenting.

No Chanel 4 is an independent TV station (with adverts). BBC is or was
Government run! (no adverts the Brits have to pay a TV licence for the
pleasure...)
No question is a dumb question...

Pamela..Well it would be lovely to be somewhere even slightly warm...not to mention hot! I have totally forgotten the last time I actually felt hot...But your great grandmother was a York...ahhhhh..is that maybe why you feel so drawn to Richard....way, way back in time a link to the great family of York...It would be interesting to trace your family back but its difficult to do so far back and even more difficult on the female side. Have you tried? Its a doddle to get back to the late 18thc on line if you join Ancestry.com but earlier than that is tricky....My family were mostly all weavers living in Bethnal Green, London...Eileen

Carol..we have a digital aerial put up a few year ago....It is now obviously as dead as a dodo..and who can blame it .I think we now going for a dish....I have tried to delay this as its going to look hideous on our little cottage. Where we live...in a kind of a dip..its really hard to get reception for t.v, radio, and you can forget mobile phones...still that is not a problem as they can be a curse...Im not au fait with these boxes...I imagine you still need an aerial. Modern technology...it sucks...Eileen

Yes, I have traced back, and managed to get to Thomas York(e) in the mid 1620's. His son, Richard was born in Olney, Northamptonshire and his birth is recorded. Also he sailed to New Hampshire in USA and arrived there in 1652. He died in Maryland in 1695. I am still working, so haven't much time to do the proper digging. But, that is on my list!

Many complain about the licence fee which comes to around 20 pence a day for 6 tv channels [BBC1HD,BBC2,3,&4,BBCHD,BBCNews] and numerous radio stations too [BBC1-6 + local stations all around the country].
The complainers would soon start shouting if they suddenly found themselves having to pay to watch BBC2 or listen to Radio4! And watching repeats of BBC programmes on a channel that has commercials is a nightmare, as they just chop in any old how, ruining any suspense and diverting concentration. I'd fight tooth and nail for my BBC and would happily pay more per day to keep it as it is.
Ends rant!

We gladly give a sum, which amounts to $1 per day, to support Public TV (and this atop our cable bill...though without Premium Channels, like HBO, this is like the prescient song "50 Channels and Nothing On" - one can only watch so many reruns of old sitcoms). If we could pay for the BBC, we'd do it in a New York Minute :-)

Ends rant!

Me too..... we get BBC America, but every time I try it, there is Gordon Ramsey bleeping his way through another restaurant!
