Another Yank here. I'm 100 miles west of Chicago. IIRC there's a Chicagoan
on here. We're the only Midwesterners that I know of.
Nasty ice storm today, but we warm up and get to an unseasonable 57F by
Tues.

Add one more Yank. I'm in Pittsburgh, PA, where it's still quite cold
and the forecast is nothing to write home about.

Another Yank here, also from Pittsburgh! Has anyone stateside come up with a way for us to watch the news conference on February 4th? (Other than flying to the UK for the airing, which must remain the stuff of dreams for most of us.)

Must make sure I'm out. Starkey - we all know how unbiased he is; 2nd - all about Tony; 3rd - gruesome and full of as much fiction as Shakespeare [it's the one with Margaret Beaufort keeping the sons of Edward IV alive in a deep dungeon in the Tower, with nobody finding out!]

Thanks for the warning!  Fortunately I am already committed to watching Borgen on Saturdays!

Is the Robinson thing  a repeat or has it been cobbled together since Robbo isn't involved in the important programme?

Christine, I suppose EVERYTHING is about the hustle these days. But, I agree that this should not be a wholesale shop till you drop Richard III event. If, indeed this is Richard III, and the battlefield has been found, it will be a major historic find. The story, if presented tastefully and truthfully, would be a wonderful CD to own and watch. Otherwise, I am agreement with you!

I think its a repeat Liz, The blurb says TR searches for the truth
about Richard III, investigating whether or not he really did murder his
nephews. ........ the Starkey programme seems to be a repeat as does the
drama !!!!!!

Sadly you are quite correct, this appears to be the nature of man.
Rubbernecking is not a modern trait and it is sad to think that Richard(if this is him) was made a spectacle in death and now 500 years later in his disinterment.
The only thing that I hope for is that all the publicity surrounding the man R3 will prompt people to really ask and find out the truth behind his life and death, perhaps undo the many wrongs that have been established by the Tudors.

Hi Christine

Yes, I think that's probably the rationale.  Many, many more people will have heard of Richard than knew of him before, and they'll also know that there's at least some debate about his reputation.  This, in turn, will take some of them towards the society.  No idea how long the website revamp has been in the pipeline, but they could hardly hope for a better time for a re-launch, regardless of the outcome next Monday.

I just watched the Fact or Fiction a couple of days back and am not reassured by it. It tries to rational, like, R did not have a humpback etc. But ends with Richard killed the princes and Edward was a bastard....
Now, I loved Princes in the Tower. The guy who played Perkin/ Duke of York, is yummy!

The actors are all good in Princes, and the show is fun to watch from a character study point of view. Each one is drawn well, gets his or her moment, and there are a lot of subtle layers for such an on-the-cheap production. Give me a British character actor any day over a boring lead American actor. The former are much more fun to watch.

The princes being kept prisoner by MB was really over the top, though.

No kidding...I cannot tolerate very many US made television or movies. All the actors and actresses are like clones, perfect teeth, perfect hair, for the women perfect bods and new boobs, and the men have six-pack abs. And most cannot act their way out of a paper bag! British actors look like real people and have earned their chops for years! Helen Mirren, Colin Firth, oh the list is endless.....................
