No "Car Park King" for Americans?
No "Car Park King" for Americans?
2013-01-29 02:00:31
Hi, all. I checked with the American group as promised and no one has heard of any plans to air the documentary in the States, but Jonathan Hayes promised to let us know if he hears anything. Meanwhile, other members suggested the (possibly illegal) ExPat Shield http://www.expatshield.com/ and a similar solution available at http://www.vpntv.co.uk . Another suggested having someone in the UK tape it and post it as a file. I don't know whether he had in mind You Tube (which would probably block it) or posting it as a file to a group like this one (or possibly better, the other forum, which is a members-only group.
Reactions, anyone? I have no idea whether these suggestions will work.

Carol:
I am looking into a way round the block, you can resend the original out via
SKYPE but it would need a IT person in the R3 Society to assist the American
members doing this.
I have been in touch with some of my old University buddies but not many of
them are still in the UK
As for the recording and resending of a file I believe that the size would
make it prohibitive to send unless it was highly compressed My suggestion
would be to post the video to a file sharing site that has both the
bandwidth and facilities to enable such a transfer ( You Tube is limited as
to the amount of data so the show would have to be split)
http://www.ehow.com/how_4796121_connect-ftp-site.html
http://www.ehow.com/how_2040392_share-youtube-video.html
This will show you the basics!
As for permission etc. the copyright kicks in if you charge or use the video
for profit,
and its always better to ask for forgiveness rather than permission!
All we need is someone on the UK end. Do you have any contacts with the
History Dept. of UK universities?

I don't have a TV so I'm asking my son to put it on disc for me to see later. I think it might be possible to copy such a disc?? (luddite here) Would that help anyone?

Dear Luddite
I will be pleased to assist you with copying the disk. I can make copies in most formats that will be acceptable to the differing formats for UK and USA TV
Contact me on my email and we can discuss details if you wish

No, but I'll ask Annette if she can help us and let everyone know what she says.

Do you mean copyright? I think that question has already been answered. It would definitely be a copyright violation and almost certainly, You Tube would block the transmission to non-UK countries.
I asked Annette whether she knows of any plans to air the documentary outside the UK. I'll let everyone know how she responds.
