Someone online has just posed the question "after the press conference are the king's fans in the Richard III Society set up to re-evaluate the reputation of a reviled monarch" They just don't get it do they? That is what Ricardians have been doing for years. After tomorrow I think traditionalists will be the ones doing the re-evaluations.

Paul, what is going to change even if the remains are that of R? The traditionalist will seize on to scoliosis to prove themselves right. If anything it is going to seal R's fame as a twisted monster even more....... I truly hope we have people out there to counter all the allegations that I see coming R's way.....:(

I have to disagree with you on that Ishita...I dont think it will at all. It will prove that he did not have a massive hump, it will prove he did not have a withered arm....come to think of it..the fact that Richard died in battle should prove that to a five year old. In any case the 'traditionalists' can go chew on a brick for all I care...They have maligned Richard long enough and if that is what melts their butter then good luck to them...Eileen

Well Ishita...you are never ever going to change some peoples minds...But for Ricardians everywhere...this is Richard's time...and no-one can rain on his parade....He has in a way come home...and he is going to at long last get a burial place suitable for him. At long last we who have always believed in him are going to be able to visit and leave a white rose...So at this moment in time I have no time for them...the Starkey's of this world....They are so insignificant to me at this time....I am so happy I am bursting...I never believed this would have happend and in my lifetime....Eileen

Like Eileen, I feel very priviledged to be alive at this point - what are the chances in getting on for 600 years! Anything that prompts more interest is good - you won't change everyone. After all I bet most of us watch programmes on H8 from time to time, however much we dislke him. At that point I shall light the touchpaper and retire!  Cheers Hilary  (PS Paul on the Foundation site they're saying that Richard A has agreed to star in Philippa's film - sorry!!)

Ish it's, my mother has scoliosis. It is not an uncommon malady, and I think it will actually make Richard all the more human, more sympathetic and understandable. Think of medicine, or what can loosely be called that, back in those days. It is remarkable that he was able to all that he did, with no treatment, and constant tormenting. Had he not been a "royal" he would probably have been abandoned and left to die.
I noticed in the York family tree, that in later generations, some people are named, and then it says, "and many other children"! Those were hard times indeed.

Lisa, I do not particularly like being negative. But if you visit all the blogs and forums out there, you will notice a common trend of " yay, the Tudors were right" mentality......PR has damaged R for all eternity. My point is that we have to ready to counter it and not just depend upon his body being found!

As Eileen says you are never going to change some people's minds... thats
just the way of the world. But also remember that 'we' the R3 society have
in our arsenal a Professor, Dr's & Well Respected Historians & Authors who
are 'doing their bit' to put the true story of Richard across - I've just
popped the list of schedule of media interviews on the r3.org website, in
case you missed earlier messages. I've just spoken to a friend in the UK
who has seen a program by Tony Robinson (dont groan) & she said it was very
positive in Richards favour... & every time they show the trailer for the
Chanel 4 program they give a little bit more away - so its looking good so
far as I can see - its an exciting time - enjoy it. I'm having chemo
tomorrow but I'm just focused on the potential news... & am so happy!! :-)
You enjoy it too & try to ignore those who will never change...

You know, I'm not really excited.  I'm sure I will be tomorrow when I actually watch the press conference but I am honestly SO convinced that it is Richard that I don't feel nervous at all.  I was jumping up and down for joy when they found the body

but feel really calm about it all.

It just can't be anyone but him and DNA or not, I think there is more than enough evidence to support the identification.

Just remember you're going to see them drilling into the bones, extracting teeth and so on. This could be quite upsetting for people who've allowed themselves to get a little close to their idea of what the man was really like.
In a way, I almost dread Richard going more "mainstream" - I don't want to see his period become as familiar to people as the Tudors.

Sent that too soon. What I was also going to say was, yes I too am thrilled to bits at the thought that finally he will get the burial and - hopefully at least some of - the recognition he deserves.

As for the traditionalists, they can indeed - to quote Eileen's marvellous phrase!  go chew on a brick.

Eileen: your post touched me very much. Until proven otherwise, Richard will always be a hero to me. Wherever he is buried, I long for the day when I can bring a bouquet of white roses to his final burial site. I hope Dr. Starkey is there when I do it, so I can hit him with the bouquet before I place them on the King's grave! Maire.
