Richard lives

Thrilled that the remains have been confirmed as Richard but found myself in tears listening to the wounds to his body, both during and after his death.
Glad also to hear that there will be no arguing about the re-internment, as was stated when things began. Legally in order to dig they are legally bound to bury him as close to the burial site as possible. And this is Leicester.
So sad at what happened to my beloved king. John Ashdown-Hill will have to do a rewrite it seems.

You know what Paul...I am sending you a massive hug..whether you like it or not. You are amongst the most staunchest, unturnable, loyalist followers of Richard on here. You dont say a lot..but when you do say you are unswerving in defending our King...I guess there have been so many times you have bitten your tongue...I know you always raise a glass to Richard on his birthday and feel rotten on that horrible date in August...but hey...we now have him back...going to be reburied in honour...we can visit...how good is that?

Yes Eileen, wonderful.
I do wonder at Leicester saying they can now honour him, when I first went there in the late 50s my cousin lived on King Richard III Road, near the King Richard III School. Odd they have only just owned up to it!
Let us hope for a tomb that outclasses the Torrigiano the Weasel has in Westminster Abbey.
And now we have without a doubt DNA for the Yorks how long will Betty Windsor hold out before allowing us to open that bloody stupid urn with the pig bones in?
Somewhere at last to visit, leave a tribute, and spend some time with Richard after so many years.

A marvellous day indeed but .....
This is Yahoo News a few minutes ago
'The remains also had signs of 'battle trauma' and scoliosis - the spinal condition which gave the medieval monarch his infamous hunched back'.
The fight will go on for much longer methinks. BUT still a great day to be alive Hilary

Paul....Grrrrrrrrr...those bits of bone in that damn urn...Whats the betting that it still will not happen....! I am so hoping I am wrong...but you know that they are like...prefer to live with their heads buried in the sand...ostrich like..
I too am hoping that something outstanding and marvellous can be done with the tomb....a alabaster effigy on top hopefully. Now they have the facial reconstruction this would help. I doubt that it will be able to top the Torrigiano Weasle one as that one spent what would have amounted to millions of pounds in todays terms on his tomb. Hahahaha....maybe he was worried about something.
Yes...a good day for us today....almost like winning the lottery Eileen

Yes theirs is much better.
As for tombs why try to rival H7? I think the most beautiful royal tomb is that of George VI in Windsor with it's simplicity and poem. It says everything about him in a very moving unpretentious way. Your reputation is your memorial. But that's just me!

As for tombs why try to rival H7? I think the most beautiful royal tomb is that of George VI in Windsor with it's simplicity and poem. It says everything about him in a very moving unpretentious way. Your reputation is your memorial. But that's just me!

I doubt that it will be able to top the Torrigiano Weasle one as that one spent what would have amounted to millions of pounds in todays terms on his tomb. Hahahaha....maybe he was worried about something.

Returning to those bones in the blasted urn...Why in the name of God they cannot now be examined again. There is no excuse..they are close at hand and there would have to be no unseemly exhumations/digging up of graves...It really is the pits that the authorities, whoever they may be, Royal or Abbey...are not letting this go ahead. They really do the most enormous disservice to English History...imho they need stringing up.

If only the accompanying article didn't state that the curved spine "proves" the hunchback myth! At least it does concede that there's no evidence of a withered arm. BTW, the skull photo shows which teeth were missing when the skull was found. It looks as if he had already lost that tooth and one other. You can also see the molar that was later extracted and a tiny hole where an oddly small back tooth apparently fell out after death. Its mate is also oddly tiny.
I don't know whether anyone has mentioned the long interview with Richard Buckley on the Leicester website as I'm having trouble keeping up with the plethora of posts, but this video shows what I expected to be shown on the documentary (the excavation of the church followed by Jo Appleby unearthing Richard's bones). It shows both the skull and the skeleton in situ and has been posted to You Tube:
