The way his handwriting gets progressively bigger and more frantic in that
letter is bizarrely endearing.

Especially when you compare it with the secretary's neat writing. He must have been absolutely furious when he wrote that.

Just saw the writing. And thought the same, Liz. You can see him towering over Kendal and scribbling while the neat secretory looks on with dismay.... The blot of ink is telling too.

Re: Richard's Letter to John Russell (re: most untrue creature livin

NOTE: Richard's own hand begins with, "We would most gladly you came yourself...." to the end.
He also has a heavy hand and is practically pushing the quill in places, which does not work; you have to pull every stroke with a quill). With the blots on some of the letters, it almost looks like he's refilling the quill without taking time enough to let the excess drain against the side of the inkpot.
He also didn't take the time to scratch out the blots with his knife and write again, as was traditional to correct mistakes on parchment. He just kept going...and going....
Angry much?

Here you go. Translation from Royal Enigma by S. Cunningham. Quoted for educational purposes only, no profit made or intended.
The scribe wrote:
From the king.
Right reverend father in God, right trusty and wellbeloved we greet you well. And in our heartiest wise [manner] thank you for the manifold [numerous] presents that your servants on your behalf have presented unto us at that our being here, which we assure you we took and accepted with good heart, and so we have cause. And whereas we by God's grace intend briefly to advance us toward our rebel and traitor the duke of Buckingham to resist and withstand his malicious purpose as lately by our letters we certified [informed] you (of) our mind more at large [at length]. For which cause it behoves [is appropriate for] us to have our great seal here. We being informed that for certain infirmities and diseases as you sustain you may not in your person to your ease conveniently come unto us with the same. Wherefore we desire and nevertheless charge you that forthwith upon the sight of these [letters] you safely to the same our great seal to be sent unto us, and such of the officers of our Chancery as by your wisdom shall be thought necessary. Receiving these our letters for your sufficient discharge [authority to act] in that behalf. Given under our signet at our city of Lincoln, the 12th day of October
Richard wrote:
We would most gladly you came yourself if that you may, and if you may not we pray you not to fail but to accomplish in all diligence our said commandment to send our seal incontinent [immediately] upon the sight hereof as we trust you with such as we trust, and the officers pertaining to attend with it, praying you to ascertain us of your news. Here, loved be God, is all well and truly determined and for to resist the duke of Buckingham the most untrue creature living, whom with God's grace we shall not be long until that we will be in that [sic, those] parts and subdue his malice. We assure you that never was false traitor better provided for [treated] as this bearer, Gloucester, can show.

Thanks Wed - he was most royally ticked off at Buckingham, like with the '83 plot, he could sure display the famous Plantagenet temper
on occasion :)

It's something like 20M huge, so I don't think it will fit...which is why I put it into a download site.
I can make it smaller, but then it won't be big enough to be closely studied. You want me to upload it anyway?

Carol responds:
Would it work to upload only the postscript that Richard actually wrote?

No, my Henry had three wives before me, but none were beheaded, and there were no Anne's, this is just one of the coincidences of life. When I started working on our family tree, my sister-in-law's family had done a great deal of work on their family, and we turned out to be cousins.
