Richard even got a mention on the BAFTAs tonight?
Why aren't film people beating a path to my door to get their hands on a
script that is ready to work on now?
So frustrating, as I sit here with my leg up after knee surgery, so
can't go running around for Richard waving my script in the air!

No Richard didn't, the car park did.
Stephen Fry made some quip about the car park.

Richard the movie

Just saw an interview with Bette Davis in which she is asked about why
she played so many evil women. "There were lots that weren't my dear"
she answered " but you remember evil. Just ask any newspaper editor!"
An actress said to me about my Richard that it would be difficult to
play a good man like the one I have drawn, and that she missed in my
script, the well known sexy but evil Richard.
Of course I said that my Richard is surrounded by nasty men and women
who try to do evil things to Richard and his family. Doesn't make any
difference if the central figure is good, I was told. Hence the lack of
excitement and interest in telling the real story.
They want to hang onto the legend.

It's true, I think, Paul. Unfortunately. I mean, when it comes to that
Robin Hood film with Kevin Costner, it's not Kevin who causes all the
excitement, but Alan Rickman's wickedly sexy Sheriff of Nottingham. A good
black-hearted villain with a dry sense of humour is always the best part to
play. IMHO anyway. And that's what Shakespeare provided in his version of
Richard. Wrongly, but successfully. I'm only glad the Bard isn't still around to
collect the royalties.

I love Alan Rickman....were he younger, he would be a great Richard III, I think. He can carry off any role. I adored him in " Truly, Madly, Deeply"!

What I have read of Paul's play it comes across as a very moving account of Richard's life and while producers might think that most people want blood and gore, some of us want historically accurate moving stories. Hopefully, they might get the message one day. Mary

Well thank you Mary, though I might add
that those who do want blood and gore should read the battle
scenes, not to mention the various executions. One can't chop off
a head without blood!
