Can we draw any conclusions from the fact that both pictures show a man
in a brown gown wearing a blue hat? May we say they represent the same
person, leaving aside the similarity in profile? Or are they too
generic?

Hughes claims that the one in the foreground of the Waurin picture with garter and red hose (not the one in the brown gown) is the same as the one with the hermit. Him, not me. But I do think the one with the hermit has something of the facial re-construction about him.
