Re-interment

Re-interment

Hello forum readers,
I have just been doing my adult ed art homework to the music of Johannes Ockeghem who was a Flemish composer contemporary with R3 & I thought some of it would be perfect for the re-interment. It's quite demanding to perform & to listen to but it must resemble what R3 would have listened to during special ceremonies like important saints' days. You need to be in contemplative mood. It's one way of retrieving the atmosphere of the 15th century although I doubt if many of us still adhere to the religious beliefs of that time.
I believe the Leicester cathedral authorities have some procedure in mind to deal with suggestions for organising the re-interment & won't accept anything that doesn't go by their procedure. Does anybody know how we make our ideas known to the people in the R3 Soc for them to consider? Apart from just bunging an e-mail to officers who probably have plenty in their inboxes anyway?
Jan - concentration now fading.

You could ask them if they have read the English Heritage & Church of England Best Practice for Christian Burials document - many requisite protocols of which do not seem to have been followed so far.

In the case of known individuals, the opinions of surviving members of the family line are paramount, as are the likely wishes of the deceased, so far as they can be inferred.

Before we make an assessment of what was or wasn't agreed to with the reinterment of the king's remains, it would be helpful to see the agreement itself. As far as I know, that document hasn't been made public.

Arthurian
Whilst I Can See the logic of the Boars on the Proposed Tomb, I should Like to Strongly Urge those with an Influence to SERIOUSLY CONSIDER Commemorating Richard as a FIGURE of a Knight/King in Full 'Yorkist Period' Armour.

The Monumental Brass Society Would, I am SURE offer Advice. For the Cost of the Boars, {these could be still added but a little smaller?]An Image of His Queen [Maybe Even his Sonne?]
Might be added, though they lie Elsewhere.

Apart from a Brass to Robert the Bruce This would be [I Believe] the ONLY Brass to a King in Britain.

Almost Certainly the Only King in England So Commemorated.

See the Monumental Brass Society Webpage for Ideas!!

Kind Regards,

Arthur.

I bet the find is going to kick off a new mania for heroic statuary. I don't think the tomb will be the final commemorative to Richard III. If the final tomb design doesn't incorporate portraiture, that won't be the last word.
