The Daughter of Time

What a delightful book, which I fear I am the last to read. Just had to send a quote:
"Morton!" said Carradine again, rolling the name over on his tongue. Wherever there's hanky-panky in this business you stub your tie against Morton."

I have, for reasons of music, been reading up on Mary Tudor.
Her motto was 'Truth is the daughter of time' or rather, 'Veritas
temporis filia'.
It was well enough known for John Knox to use it on the title page of
'The first blast of the trumpet against the monstrous regiment of
women' without any explanation. (He didn't approve of queens regnant.)
Best wishes
Christine

Christine, your message didn't show up on the site at all except for a brief excerpt in the list of messages. Don't know if people who receive the posts by e-mail can read it or not.

Mary Tudor? How ironic is that?

Might the saying truth is the daughter of time' derive from Greek
mythology, when Chronos, a god of time, is often confused with Cronus, a Titan,
who (in some versions) had a daughter, Athena, a goddess of truth? I'm prepared
to be contradicted on this, as I'm no expert on Greek or Roman mythology.
