I saw this! Something like 50,000 remains. The ones shown in the photos all look like my king. Maire.

How come they look like they have twisted spines? I am thinking that Richard's spine now looks much worse than when he was alive( of course he had the spinal abnormality)...... Even though it sounds unscientific , can we completely rule out the weight of the dirt to be responsible for the pronounced curvature?

Given that he was buried half sitting, I would have thought his spine would
probably be pushed a bit more out of true by his own weight as his bones
settled downwards - but it probably wouldn't make it much worse than it was.

Probably not. What about the spine of the skeletons found? They look twisted to me. Or maybe I am projecting R3's condition to all and sundry skeletons!

I thought the same, but have had a glass of wine, so I reconsidered. Thanks for making me sober and seeing what I thought I saw.

Carol responds:
I think your first point is the key one, especially given that he was also pushed into a too-short grave, and brings us back to the need for an upright, articulated replica to see how it would have appeared in life. Any conclusion based on the position of the bones in the grave, or worse, the two-dimensional layout on the table, is, in my opinion, premature.
