Hello Forum Members,
Last week I said I had written to people in positions of influence in the City, the Cathedral & the University at Leicester about the honourable / dishonourable references to the King & whether it might not be better to re-inter him in a more welcoming place.
I have since received a reply from Mr Soulsby the City Mayor, with what I like to think is a real signature, in which he says it is good to know there is so much interest in the discovery, etc, etc, & that his office is considering its response to the Cathedral's consultation process & that any comments his office receives will be passed to the Cathedral.
I have also got a copy of a standard reply from the Cathedral on paper from the Bishop of Leicester, the Rt Rev Tim Stevens, signed by himself & the Acting Dean. From it I learn they have received many passionate & interesting letters & emails as a result of the publication of the Architectural Brief which is the start of the process to bring King Richard into the Cathedral.
It continues later: The scheme will fit into the overall hopes & aspirations of the Cathedral to be a place for everyone in our city & county, our nation & the world as we give Richard III lasting & honoured sanctuary. The Cathedral team invites you to pray for them as they work to find compelling & appropriate solutions which will be literally fit for a King.
So what next as the consultations get going? The Cathedral has a big challenge to meet, so those of you who believe in prayer may well want to include the Cathedral clergy, the Brief & the King on your prayer list.
For my part I am not sure what to do next. Wait for an idea, maybe. If I get anything from the Chancellor & the Vice-Chancellor of the Uni of Leicester I'll report back.
Thanks to the bad weather I am not tempted to go into the garden rather than send very long emails!

Thank you very much for the update. The fact that you are getting some form replies, to me, means that they are getting loads of mail........ What next, I have no clue.

Well, I'm glad to learn that "they" are paying attention.
I finally simmered down enough last week to send an e-mail to Leicester
Cathedral, & am planning to write some additional letters or e-mails to
others involved in this farcical train of events. It really does seem to
be time for a transparent discussion of what is best, one that involves all
the stakeholders. And I would submit that, although Richard doesn't have
any known living direct descendants, there are many of us who feel a close
personal connection to him, & would like to see him finally treated with
some respect; we are his surrogate family.
So if you have any opinion or feelings about the ultimate outcome, I think
it's well worth expressing them to anyone who might be involved in a public
discussion of what is the best course.

Thanks for this Jan, it is good to know what is happening. I just can't stop myself thinking that they all want him because of the money that it will bring in. I am realistic enough to know that it will mean lots of money for whichever city is lucky enough to have him buried in their Minster/ Cathedral and I am not against that, it is just so ironic that everybody vilified Richard and in some cases are still are vilifying him, but now they are fighting over him because of the money and Leicester Cathedral don't seem to realise the honour that they are being offered. I am a supporter of Richard because of all the lies told about him for centuries and I want to see justice done. They need to do some proper research!!
