Hello Forum readers,

If anybody has read "Richard III; a medieval kingship" ed. John Gillingham 1994, please could you let me know if it's worth buying while it.'s still at pocket money prices?

I've spent a lot of pocket money recently!

Thank you,

Jan.

I recently got this book and think it well worth the £3.00 plus p & p I paid for it.  There are seven papers by seven well known historians on different aspects of Richard's reign and includes Hicks on Richard as Duke, Horrox on his government, Anne F Sutton on his court and culture and Jones on Richard as a soldier.

I have his Wars of the Roses. I have only to quote him saying about the death of the princes 'however biased More's history might be, it could hardly have been done otherwise', and re the Buckingham rebellion quoting the high numbers Richard attainted, but failing to say their wives were not affected, and I think you'll know where he was coming from. So unless he had a revisionist moment I wouldn't waste your money.
