RIII Book Recommendations?

Hi, I've always been a British history enthusiast, but have never
got into the RIII story too much. Could anyone recommend a reading
list?

Well, to add a little more:
_Under the Hog_ by Patrick Carleton
_The Sunne in Splendour_ by Sharon Kay Penman
_Some Touch of Pity_ by Rhoda Edwards (in U.S. has a different title)
_Good King Richard?_ by Jeremy Potter
_We Speak No Treason_ by Rosemary Hawley Jarman
_Royal Blood_ by Bertram Fields.
That's a good start, anyway.

My personal favorites! Also "The Daughter of Time" by Josephine Tey. Fiction, but very well written, with some reasonable arguments.

I hope no one minds this little American Branch commercial:
We have reading lists (which probably could use some updating) at
http://www.r3.org/biblio.html
We also have a pretty good overview of older Ricardian fiction online
at
http://www.r3.org/fiction/roses/index.html
This, too, doesn't take into account all the stuff that's been
published in the past five years, of course.
Since (if I may immodestly mention it) this is the site that comes up
on Google if you put in "Richard III" and hit "I'm feeling lucky", it
probably behooves the worldwide community of Ricardians to put its
collective efforts into updating this reading list.
Standing by to receive an aggregated list of updates if someone
volunteers to manage the project...

I greatly enjoyed *The Sunne in Splendour* each of the six or seven
times I've read it. I started *We Speak No Treason*, but somehow could
never get into it. There was also a mystery novel whose name I can't
recall about a hospitalized detective who investigates the murder of the
Princes as a passtime and concludes that Henry VII was the real culprit.

Hi, Bob,
That was _The Daughter of Time_ book by Josephine Tey that was just mentioned.
The www.r3.org site, which has been mentioned a couple of times, is an
absolute gold mine of information in itself; it *could* take a lifetime to explore.

Under the Hog is my favourite, and of novels there are also Loyalty
Binds me, The Killing of Richgard III (a new one to meand I don't
know what it's like - anyone does???); and textboks, Charles Ross,
Richard III is standard; John Gillingham's book of articles, R3, a
Medieval Kingship; Audrey Williamson, The Mystery of the Princes,
Jones, Bosworth. There are umpten more of course but that's a
reasonable smattering for a beginner!

Only if you like fiction Pam! Come on, you can do better than that! Neither
Jeremy Potter¹s book nor Fields are fiction, but the rest are. Add Philip
Haigh¹s Military Campaigns of the Wars of the Roses, Johnson¹s Richard Duke
of York, Horrox Richard III - A Study in Service, and Sean Cunningham¹s
Richard III a royal enigma.
That should keep you quiet over Christmas!:-)

Hi, Paul--
I was just speaking of what I could readily remember and I *did* qualify that
by saying "as a start." ;-) Ha! Getting cagey after some listserv
experiences! I can't even remember now if the request was strictly for non-fiction.
I don't even own the Haigh or Horrox book, but I do have all the rest, not
too bad for being into this subject for only two years!
Who will be quiet over Christmas? Not me, except while I'm in California!
I'm working on Ann Wroe's "Perkin Warbeck" book now (into it only 100 pages or
so) as, on another listserv, we'll be having extensive discussions with the
author starting in January. And I'm re-reading "Alianore Audley" on the sly,
since it is funny and uplifting, which helps me get through the bleak season of
winter. It's stored on my computer; perhaps the future of books is in
e-books, or in a handful of CD's which can store multiple books. Still, there's
something comforting about the regular format of books.
