Re movie: Im thrilled to learn that Phillipa is working on a screen play. Is anyone in contact with her and does anyone know of her possible choices for lead actors? I am with you Carol. I don't think it will end.....there will undoubtedly be more books, and the the actual ceremony of burial or entombment, or whatever. Surely, more than one person will hit upon the movie, documentary, or GASP, The Plantagenets, a series. That would knock old Henry Ocho right off the television.

Re: new movie

I thought everybody here knew of my screenplay that I have been trying
to finance for some years now!
I hoped to get some interest with the discoveries in Leicester, but in
spite of some major efforts made by myself and my producer, so far not a
single bite, though I may get part of the script done as a dramatised
documentary about the coming to the throne of Richard. 1483, Year of 3
Kings, a political thriller.
I have no idea why the sudden growth in interest in Richard hasn't
inspired some money men to seek out a script, but so far nobody has.
A truthful script I should say.
Coming soon we have The White Queen based on Phillippa Gregory's
intensely historically inaccurate series of novels.
One producer told me they preferred the sardonic villain to the hero,
and I can tell you at times I wonder just what one has to do to 'sell' a
hero to the money men. Those who have read my script have nothing but
good to say about it, including people who are not Ricardians and people
who do not know me.
Yes it would be expensive, but no more than any sci-fi project. Just
give me a budget the same as 5 episodes of Game of Thrones and I'll
deliver you an amazing story that will wipe away the legend, replacing
it with a true story as exciting and dramatic a tale as anyone could
imagine.
And I'm not playing the casting game, though I know who my 6 leading
players would be. I haven't found anyone who could fit Edward IV though!

Well I actually fell for Richard when he was played by a very young Oliver Reed, with appropriate length hair. It will take a lot to replicate that.

Sorry Paul I had forgotten about your screen play. That's why you are needed back on this forum. You are so right about Richard's story. It is fascinating and so much better than some of the stories that are made into films.

Doug here:
Sorry to hear about the lack of "bites", but that bit about the documentary
is nice to know.
(Please consider the following as being along the lines of my bringing the
topic up in conversation with you. While emails seem to have a permanence
that an actual conversation lacks, the following are just some thoughts and
if you've already considered them (most likely!) feel free to hit "delete".
I'll considered that to be the same as you telling me "Thanks, already tried
it!")
Could that "lack" be because of fears a stand-alone movie would be just too
risky?
Could your script, as part of a larger television series, possibly be more
of a "lure" to get those bites? "The Last Plantagenets", maybe? Something on
the order of "The Tudors"?
With just a *tad* more historical accuracy, of course!
The last three episodes would be your Richard script, the first three would
start with either Bolingbroke's assumption of the crown or H6, depending on
how long the series was to be. The episodes in-between (properly written,
acted and directed, of course) should, I would think, provide enough drama
and conflict to keep interest going!
"If you liked/loved GoT, here's the original!"
Anyway, whatever happens, keep plugging away and best of luck!

A Plantagentet series! Now THAT would rock! Henry II alone is more interesting TV material than all the Tudors combined :D

Hello Doug
Dipping my toes in the water again now a certain person is no longer
clogging up my in box!
I gave up on the single moive a long time ago. Originally I began with
the aftermath of Tewkesbury, then realised we needed to know how the
characters got to that point in their lives and why they were behaving
like there were. So I went back a bit only to encounter the same
problem. So I ended writing Richard's whole life, starting with his
birth. That's when it became a 5 part mini series, dreamed of very much
along the budgetary lines of Game of Thrones.
My producer is pitching the 1483 dramatised documentary saying that when
"they love it, which they will, I'll be able to pull out the rest of the
script and tell them I have the whole story if they'd like to help out
telling that too!"
Of course dramatised documentaries don't attract A list actors, but then
telling the story is more important, and as long as I have a say in the
casting, which I will insist on, then I can make a decent stab at it.
Won't be as I have already seen it in my head, but.....
Fingers crossed.

The lack of A-listers in a documentary *might* be plus - less worries about

If only Richard Armitage were selfless enough to go out and do the footwork, necessary to gathering funds, yet without expecting a role, that would be fabulous. It's not unheard of. If I'm not much mistook, the series on David McCullough's John Adams was helped along by the likes of Tom Hanks (or someone of similar credentials), without even demanding a cameo. These are true motion picture heroes, finding cash to support deserving projects.
If only the RA fan club might persuade him that the important thing is Richard, not the role, I would respect their efforts.
Paul's script is brilliant. Reading it was a privilege.
None of you would be disappointed. I guarantee this.

As I have said before, I'm not playing the casting game, as I have seen
how most members vote for a favourite, irrespective of whether that
person is right for the part, or in some cases, can even act! RA?
Everyone knows my feelings about him. So I'm afraid that's a negative to
both parts of your enquiry.
But thank you for your interest:-)

Richard Liveth Yet!
Re: new movie

Richard Armitage's fans, and Armitage himself, are way ahead of us. Long before "The Hobbit" was released in theaters, there has been a petition here:
http://kingrichardarmitage.rgcwp.com/petition-for-richard-iii/
that one can sign in support of Armitage's R3 project. Per the site: "The only persons who may gain access to verify the signature list for leverage with potential investors are the administrators of this website, Richard Armitage himself or his agent, certified to work on his behalf. The only aim of the collection of this signature list is to support the creation of the film "Richard III". The list in its entirety and also individual signatures will not be used in any other way. Every step forward will be publicised on this website, so you will always be kept up to date on the newest developments concerning the petition."
For years, in a variety of interviews, Armitage has made no secret that he supports R3, wants to do a project based on him, and has been seeking funding for same. His ideal was for a multi-episode mini-series a la "The Tudors" because it would take that long to do the story properly, and he's been seeking financing for years as well.
It is only recently that his role in "The Hobbit" has made producers and directors sit up and take notice, so that the project may actually happen -- so I'd venture that some sort of major project(s) are in the works for either or both Richards. Also, if I recall correctly, Philippa herself said that Armitage was interested in appearing in the screenplay she is scripting. In fact, her doing background on Richard III for that screenplay is what made her begin looking for Richard's grave in the first place. So it's all tied together.
While we the foot-soldiers will likely only know of such a project when Hollywood Reporter or Variety (the industry publications) announce it as being in pre-production with whatever actors the production company has hired, there's likely many scurriers working in the background already to make it happen.
Armitage has been catapulted into being an A list actor this year; R3 has also been catapulted into being a pop-culture star this year. Bloom is already a known quantity. Producers and directors worldwide aren't going to ignore any of these, as all three can make them a great deal of money.
Mini-series or feature film? Both, probably.
Both Bloom and Armitage are returning to New Zealand in June to film the final battle for "The Hobbit" trilogy. After that, Bloom is scheduled to appear on Broadway in a limited production of "Romeo and Juliet" that opens in August. Currently, Armitage has been doing publicity for the DVD release of "The Hobbit." As far as I know, he hasn't released his schedule beyond June, and *that*, my pretties, may be significant. Actors have this thing about not talking about a project until the ink is dry on the contract, lest they queer the deal.
Miracles happen; I'd trust that the scurriers are doing their jobs well in the background. Pushing this producer or that network to get a wiggle on where R3 projects are concerned won't help. The King in the car park is busy emblazoning his popularity worldwide at the moment. Give the process for a feature film or mini-series time to work, and for the directors to find producers willing to finance the project, and (in the case of a feature film) a major studio to distribute it internationally.

These are true motion picture heroes, finding cash to support deserving projects.
