St George's Day Events At The Manor House - 20th & 21st April
Donington-le-Heath Manor House is going to be at the heart of St George's
Day celebrations this weekend.
Staff at Manor House will be hosting a weekend of medieval fun on
Saturday, April 20 and Sunday, April 21, the day itself, with the Duke of
Buckingham's Retinue recreating life during the time of Richard III with
living history, costume, cookery, arms and armour and a medieval mummers
play.
The events run from 11am until 4pm on both days and tickets are £2 (adults)
and £1 (children). Further details on 01530 831259, by e-mailing

The former keeper of Donington-le-Heath is also returning to these
historical surroundings for a series of talks.
Peter Liddle, also the former County archaeologist, will share his
knowledge of the archaeology of Leicestershire and Rutland in six lectures
starting this week.
The first talk, on Wednesday, April 17, will centre on early Prehistoric
Leicestershire with the series going on to cover Iron Age, Roman, Saxon,
Viking and medieval periods.
A spokesman for Leicestershire County Council said: "Peter Liddle has been
involved with Leicestershire archaeology for more than 40 years and his
talks will also draw on recent discoveries to paint a new picture of life
and death in Leicestershire's past."
History-lovers can sign up for all the lectures at a cost of £25 or attend
