What ifs and Christmas presents
What ifs and Christmas presents

I have found the discussions regarding the above fasinating, I would like to add another What if Richard had won Bosworth, I happen to believe that eventually he would have married Elizabeth of York (she was as far as I can ascertain his type of woman, strong but very much in the background).
Also on a more flippant topic anyone get any Richardian gifts, I managed to get hold of a book on Perkin Warbeck which was out of print on the net which arrived prior to Christmas so does that count.
Hope everyone had a nice peaceful Christmas
May I wish you all a very happy, healthy New Year.

Have to strongly disagree her. Not in a milion years would his
bastardised neice have come into Richard¹s marriage thoughts. He was already
negotiating with Portugal and that is where his second queen would have come
from.

And a happy Christmas and successful New Year to all here.
I was lucky enough to receive a limited edition book, the Field of
Bosworth by the Battlefield historian K.S. Wright. It will take
pride of place on my Ricardian shelf.
I think he would have married abroad, whatever personal interest he
may or may not have had in Elizabeth. He was on friendly terms with
Isabella of Castile, wasn't he? Maybe he would have sought one of
her daughters. Her daughter Isabella was born in 1470 so would have
been about the right age. And as she did not marry till 1490 would
have been available. I gather he had in fact previously sought
Isabella herself before her marriage to Ferdinand and his to Anne
Neville.

I doubt it. Rumors forced him to deny that he was
thinking of marrying Elizabeth painfully soon after
Anne died. I don't think winning at Bosworth would
have changed any of his reasons for making that
denial.
I think Edward's bad example would have stopped
Richard from making any marriage that wasn't 103%
politically correct. If he'd lived, I think Richard
would have followed the rules for royal marriage. I
don't have any theories about who he might have
married. I hope he wouldn't have married Joanna of
Portugal against her will.

Stephen asked: Questions to all posters:
What was your first relevant history book?
If you could e-mail a deceased monarch, what would you
most like to say?
***
My first relevant history book was Thomas Costain's
"The Last Plantagenets."
If I could e-mail Richard III, I'd ask him how he came
to choose "Loyaulte me lie" as his motto, and when he
began to use it.
