Unexpected defense of Richard III
Unexpected defense of Richard III

Note to Joan: If the Ricardian Register (or was it the Bulletin?) still has its section on unusual or unexpected defenses/attacks on Richard, here's one you might be interested in:

The author seems to be a conspiracy theorist and I don't agree with his view of Thomas More, but it's interesting nonetheless, and I'll take defenses of Richard where I can find them. Comments, anyone?

I mostly agree with his view of More and I'm no Catholic! but I do wonder about "the Cryptocracy" I could use some more detail on that, though I believe corrupt rich people have always sought to protect their interests at the expense of others. Now I would call it Corporatocracy, not sure if Hoffman means the equivalent of such back then or something more convoluted.

Oh dear - I don't think support coming from an anti-Semitic lunatic
Holocaust-denier can do Richard's cause anything but harm. What can it do
but make the antis - and even the neutral - think that anybody who says
Richard wasn't a child-murderer is as mad as the people who think the
Holocaust didn't happen?

Conspiracy theorists, are usually suspect in my books. I find them all to be tiresome and bigoted. They take some fact, a lot of fiction, and make a whole cloth of it.

OK, now I see the Holocaust denier stuff, was not fully caffeinated when I first replied. Self-pitying too :-P

Carol responds:
Uh-oh. I didn't know he was a holocaust denier. The last thing we need is support from the lunatic fringe. All I read was the article itself. Sorry I posted the link!

I think he must be, because if you pan away from the bit about Richard and
look at the links to previous articles at the side and top they are nearly
all anti-Semitic stuff - with really deranged, fantastical titles, a bit
like David Icke and his giant lizards but with added racism - and if
somebody is a foaming anti-Semite then "revisionist" nearly always means
"Holocause-denier".
I wonder if he knows Richard was the first English king to knight a Jew, who
was his faithful sidekick?
> Sorry I posted the link!
s'OK.
