Does anyone happen to know where Richard and his family are likely to have
stayed during the weeks they were in York on the King's progress?

I don't know about Richard and his family but on a Branch visit to York we were lucky enough to have a tour of the city with Dorothy Mitchell of the Friends of Richard III. Dorothy told us that when Richard was in York he always stayed with the Augustinian Friars. We took that to mean just Richard but I suppose it could mean Richard and his family.

I think he is understood to have stayed mostly with the Augustinian Friars who were based on Lendal (approximately, roughly behind where Banks Music shop is now) - I have heard that because he stayed there as his "regular" place, alterations were being made specifically for the rooms he stayed in.

Yes that's so, it was near Lendal Bridge and very near the Guildhall in fact just across the road.

Christine does part of it still exist? I have a recollection of Dorothy taking us into a Medieval building and saying that this is all that is left of the Augustinian Friary. However, I can't remember exactly where we were.

Thanks so much...I assume the friars would have accommodated Anne and E of M, too, while the rest of his retinue found lodgings elsewhere? Or would there have been room for everyone with the Franciscans?
I'd read before that he stayed with the friars. I also read in Kendall that early in his progress he visited Magdalen College, Oxford where he and his "chief lords" stayed in the college. The next day, "at his express desire," he heard two scholastic disputations in the great hall (moral philosophy and theology). After dinner he rode to Woodstock but came back to Magdalen the next day to "inspect the University" and stayed a few more hours afterward as well. I got the feeling he really didn't want to leave. So if Edward V had assumed the throne and got sniffy with his uncle, perhaps Richard would have become a bishop and intellectually cloistered himself at Cambridge or Oxford?
I really don't think he ever wanted to be king.

Hi I'm not sure myself, I read somewhere that there is part of a wall along the river but I don't know where though I have looked for it.
I shall look again next time I'm in York.
