White Queen ep 1
White Queen ep 1

Firstly, don't think King Edward is on record for riding about in armour
with a crown on his helmet.
When EW approached KE to ask for her lands Hastings was with him, not
Warwick and a troop of soldiers in suits of armour, while her sons,
brought along to tug at his heart strings, lounged about in silk
brocades, one munching on a plum, the other playing with his dagger.
The Rivers didn't live in a moated castle with their own private church
did they?
For private meeting when he tries to rape EW Edward wears a nice leather
Norman style tunic.
He then decided to marry her before trotting off for a battle that sends
Queen Margaret and her son into Scotland, and King Henry loopy again.
But this episode is dated 1464. What battle did Edward fight against
Henry VI in 64?
The new Queen then rides to London on horseback with just a few ladies
in waiting?
Oh and let's not forget the frequent popping down to the river for some
magic, and the gift of sight EW has, seeing danger to her two sons.
If I were Edward one look at her brood would have been enough to see me
heading for cover a long long way away!
Best line? "Oh its you lady Margaret Beaufort." "Stafford now." "Still
a Lancastrian though eh?" MB sneers.
Brothers George and Richard are introduced. No you're wrong! That's the
dead Borgia son not George!
So rich in poetry.....
I am certain it will get worse. Research? 3 out of 10 Phillipa. Must do
a lot better. Too many mistakes.

Did 15th century ladies, married or otherwise run around all the time without headcoverings?
Was everyone aware of the archer story and Edward IV's illegitimacy years before Warwick's rebellion?

Didn't think so.
There is a very good review in The Times today. Part of it says '....how I wish it were not such utter tosh. This is history aribrushed and sanitised, prettified and tidied up, glamorised and un-nuanced....although this is a war story, we see no fighting. Battles are pre-announced like football results...You would need wonderful actors to make this credible and too few of the cast are.....'

There's a lot more of it - he finishes by saying The White Queen makes The Tudors and The Biorgias look like I, Claudius.
I would recommend reading all of it.

There's a lot more of it - he finishes by saying The White Queen makes The Tudors and The Biorgias look like I, Claudius.
I would recommend reading all of it.

Thank you Paul for proving that I am not batty. I kept thinking which battle are they talking about. I also thought it was Hastings not Warwick who was with him. Richard and George looked a bit old for 12 and 15. Also wasn't Richard living at Middleham in Warwick's household when this happened?

And wouldn't Anne have been about eight? Shakespeare lives.

I doubt PG would call them mistakes. Poetic license, surely? "There were holes there; I simply filled them in." (?!)
I can't wait until they get to EW cursing Richard's sword arm, Richard knowing it, and his saying to her (while she's in sanctuary), "You might regret doing that one day, especially if you need me to use it to defend you."
Richard defending EW? EW wanting it? Bwahahahaha.
And then there's the adorably swoon-worthy romance Richard later has going with his niece and it's *ages* before the court notices. "Mummy, I wanted so badly to write and tell you how hard sickly Anne is throwing me at her hubby the king, but I knew I couldn't. I had to tell you in person. Never mind in a few pages I'll be writing you frantic missives about how his councilors are making it all go south and he's turned into a spineless mouse where I'm concerned. You must tell me what to do!"
"Dearest Daughter: Walk out of the book. Now. Take Richard with you."
Note to producers: Margaret Beaufort's letters to EW should all be tear-stained.

Can someone copy and paste the Times review? If you're outside the UK and not a Times subscriber, you can't read it. Thanks much if anyone can do this.
