Does the Society still do that thing where you can buy photocopies of old articles, does anybody know? So many seem not to be available anymore :(

TYIA for any advice!

When I was doing my Stillington thing I wrote to them and they, very obligingly, dug out about four different copies of 1970s articles for free. Could be because I was doing that of course, but I did offer to pay.

If you know the name of the article (or what it was about), and you do a Google search on it, Google can usually give you the old URL that comes up with the "page not found" notice at the new Society site.

You can then copy that URL, go to the Wayback Machine web archive at:
http://archive.org/web/web.php

put in the old URL, and the Wayback Machine will come up with a calendar that lists every time the page was archived.

If you click on the latest date, it will take you to the archived article. (Not on the Society site.)

I don't know what the Society has done to mess up their archive links -- whether the links are just broken or if they've removed a lot of what used to be there -- but this is a viable workaround for many of their old articles.

Good luck, I know it's frustrating.

Thanks very much Weds for the detailed reply! Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work for me- I just get a link to the current Soc page that lists (but doesn't link to) the articles. So no URL for me!
Curses... But greatly appreciated all the same!!!

Just write to them (I think I wrote to general enquiries) and say you're from the forum. If there's anyone there at the time they're very good.  It took them all of 10 mins to dig out and attach something from 1976.

If you Google for the name of the article as listed on the page you found, Google may list the old link/URL. Then you can go to it, copy it, etc. as per before.
