And so it should be.  I wonder if they've agreed this because of the anti-Leicester lobby?  In whcih case it did some good.

Possibly so - but lots of pro-Leicester people wanted the table-top tomb, too.  The important thing is they seemed to have listened after, initially, being caught on the hop by a situation they didn't really know how to handle.  Not surprising, really.  It is pretty much unprecedented.  A career in the church doesn't prepare you for burying a 500 year old monarch, least of all one from a hotly contested period of history about which you probably know only the vaguest of outlines...

Maybe I should write & thank the Leicester Cathedral authorities for the improved proposal, after having complained earlier about the acting dean's ungracious comment!  So they now have plans for windows & a pall too.  I heard no more about Michael Ibsen making the coffin or the royal undertakers committing to the ceremony.  I do hope the choir will be up to cathedral standard; do others think they should use Graham Keitch's In Memoriam Ricardus Rex?
Perhaps Prior Fabian & other Dominicans will be invited.  I think it should be televised for all those interested who cannot be there at the time.
Jan.

For what its worth I think they are getting a little panicky because of the challenges coming their way and hoping to push it through as quickly as possible. I know of two challenges to Leicester one from the Alliance and another which I cannot give details on and may not need to be used, sorry I know its frustrating not being given details but there it is, I spoke to someone at the weekend of The Richard III Festival in Middleham about it, it pertains to the tomb details.
Their attitude to the courts ( arrogant, just who do they think they are ) indicates to me that they are in a bit of a panic.

I´m absolutely for it! It´s such an important ceremony and it would be amazing if people could follow it via the internet or TV.

What I meant was since there is quite a lot of vocal opposition to Leicester , do they think this will ensure they get to keep Richard because the majority do want a raised tomb

Personally I am far more concerned about "how" he is buried, than "where"

Totally agree here Liz. How is far more important. The more I think
about it the more the Dominicans sounds the place, as it sounds like
they would treat him with real dignity, in a way he would have recognised.
Though I have no vote it, I know.

I agree it sounds a beautiful place but there's no chance they'll get him.  I suspect it's a bit too "religious" int his PC day and age.

As a King should not the Archbishop of Canterbury officiate? I know it's now a 'different' Church but it was his predecessor who crowned him?
