Re; Baby name&.I know its a hot potato but the extent of the German heritage of the current Royal Family, is somewhat dismaying to many of us English loving historians. I would like the more knowledgeable historians among us, to discuss the non English heritage of the Royal Family. CarolD

Prince Philip's  parents both had German/Danish  heritage.  His parental grandmother was Russian.

The Queen's mother was Anglo Scottish.  Her father George VI  had a German mother (Queen Mary was the last full German since Prince Albert as far as I can tell).  His father George V was half Danish, half Anglo German so yes a lot of German ancestors there.

Diana's family were English as are Kate's (or British).  This baby will be the most British monarch we will have had for centuries.

I get a bit fed up with the "they're German" thing.  The royals have always married foreign princes and princesses.  Prince Philip was born in Greece but  has spent his life almost entirely in the UK.  The Queen was born and brought up here as were both her parents and three of her grandparents so I'd call them British, or British enough.

The last "English" King was Harold and let's face it, the English were immigrants as well.  .
