- *Friend:* Are you upset about the outcome of the election?

Disgusting, isn't it? But only what we have been saying about the University of Leicester, and LCC, using Richard for their own ends. Hope there is some retribution in store for them! The reply from George Jones is very pointed though

The salient paragraph is surely:

"You can't blame the PR bods, tenacious as they are, for putting such
drivel out into the world, I suppose; nor is their cause a sinister one.
The embarrassment sits with those of us in the media, for eating it up
with such enthusiasm"

The George Jones comment isn't entirely literate.

You know you can't really blame the Uni either; it's a competitive market and dog eats dog. How many unis that boast of discoveries were actually sponsored to do so but don't meniton the sponsor; particularly in the field of science?

Exactly.  I used to work at KCL and they would have milked this to the stars.  Aggressive PR was one of the foundations of their capital campaign about 10 years ago and they couldn't afford *not* to behave in that way.

Anywhere associated with Richard will use that to draw more interest, more visitors, more funding.  It's not just Leicester, but York and Middleham as well, and I'm sure various other places.

And in a strange kind of way, it's all rather flattering to him.  His name still has so much power over 500 years after his death.

I know it's hard but I think we have to look at it like that. Whether it's York or Leicester (and I've been to last in the past two weeks) it's great to see the banners on the lampposts with his name on them. The Leicester banners are particularly fetching because they have a picture of the (beautiful) statue with him holding up the crown.
