Excellent article on Richard's Parliament
Excellent article on Richard's Parliament
2013-08-29 17:06:30
While I was trying to find the act of Richard's Parliament related to Elizabeth Woodville's property (not Titulus Regius), I found a wonderful and informative article by Susan L. Troxell, Esq., "The Tenth Coin": Richard III's Parliament and Public Statutes," that explains six of the acts and argues that they are indeed novel and enlightened despite allegations to the contrary. The "Esq." seems to indicate that Ms. Troxell is a lawyer and therefore knowledgeable on the topic. (Yep--she's an American lawyer with an office in Philadelphia. Whether she's a member of the Richard Society, I don't know, but she should be!)

If *that* doesn't work because Yahoo is being uncooperative, just copy and paste it. The article is well worth reading. I don't have Adobe Acrobat, so I can't convert it to a Word document or copy it to our Files, but I would greatly appreciate it if someone can do that for me and all of us. It provides great ammunition against Richard's detractors.
She has another article, "Richard's Affinity and Good Lordship as Duke of Gloucester, 1468-1483," which appears as a saveable Word document and which I will add to our Files in my next post.

I think Susan is a member. She's certainly on the "Ricardian" group on Facebook and will be thrilled at this good review when I tell her.
