I know that one of the issues in the early days of the Protectorate, once
the move for an early coronation of Edward V was halted, was a definition
of the role the Protector should play (one among many counsellors, or
more-or-less absolutely in control).
Is there a source naming who the King's Council was? Seems I've read,
maybe here, that Edward IV's council would remain in place immediately
after his death.
And once Richard gained the upper hand, is it reasonable to suppose that he
had final say in who was named to commissions of the peace (sorry, there it
is again)?

To all,
It looks like as the moderator I have lost all ability now to make changes to the group settings and if I try to post from home page it says I need to be a member, they have really succeeded in making it a real disaster

Hi, Neil. Did you try signing out of Yahoo and signing in again? That should allow you to post from the forum website. However, there *is* no home page except the Yahoo Groups page. Could not agree more that they've made it a real disaster. My experiment using doesn't seem to have worked so am just posting from the site again and forgoing the option of paragraphs! I may try again from Word, changing the spacing and turning off curly quotes, but no need for a short response like this one.--Carol

Neil, do you still have the ability to approve new members? One of my other groups has been invaded by spammers, and over on the help/feedback pages some of the moderators are saying they no longer have the ability to approve new members, or edit posts of members who are on moderation.
Apparently many groups have been closed, or moved over to Google Groups or bigtent.com. This change has not been well received at all.

Speaking of the Yahoo changes has anyone figured out how to search old
posts?

Use the magnifying glass icon (or # in the unlikely event that you know the message number). It's next to the curved arrow for Refresh. Now if I can just figure out how to paragraph! My brilliant idea of using Word seems to have backfired. (The good news is that the new format is massively unpopular and will, I hope, be improved or scrapped. At the very least, they could give us a homepage for which the moderator can provide a suitable picture or photo!))
BTW, thanks very much for all your effort in posting the charts for commissions of the peace. I'm sure I'll find a use for them when I'm less busy with editing and so forth.

Naturally, Yahoo makes a liar of me and the paragraphing works in that post! Oh, the irony. Maybe they're making improvements one problem at a time?

I have used the magnifying glass, but I can't see that it gives me any
results -- will have to try again, maybe with a different browser. Oh
well...
The next step regarding the commissions is to look more closely at how the
composition changed in the areas that seem to have been troublesome.

Probably not at the moment, as being away in Montone I only have the iPad and of course this doesn't work on the new setup.

A friend on another list found this workaround to approve/delete messages.
Perhaps something like it will work for new members?
"For those who are finding that Yahoo won't let them approve or delete
messages in the queue, I have discovered that, if you have a message open
which Yahoo won't let you approve, hit the "Back" button and click the
"approve check" by that message in the list of waiting messages. Then open
the next message, close it, hit the "approve" or "delete" symbol by it in
the queue. It's time-consuming, but it's a work-around until such time as
Yahoo actually makes this format workable for the administration."
